Not round and they do not pass the scratch test. The base attaching the post to the pearl is extremely small. I bought these to be a place holder in my jewelry box while I had mine repaired at the jeweler. My other pair were gift from my husband that I don't have the heart to tell him broke, and I didn't want him to notice they were missing.
