Nylabone was recommended by our vet as safe (no stringy or large pieces to pose health hazard). I was reluctant at first because they're expensive, but given how long they last, they are a bargain. Our dog is lying beside me right now, chewing away on the one he's had for over 2 months, and after all his gnawing, there's still 95% left. That's why I just ordered a half dozen for the future. I first called Nylabone customer service and was told that the bones do not expire. (This one is the color of chicken broth and is chicken flavored.) Our dog is 40 pounds and about 18 months old. We had one of these for a few years. Then, we added a new puppy. Both dogs love these. There teeth are clean and don't require a lot of extra on my end. These are bright enough that when they end up outside, we can easily find them and pick them up.
