Delicious, but this isn’t “ceremonial-grade” matcha. Nor was it meant to be.

PSA: This is NOT matcha. Please don’t leave negative reviews on this product just because you didn’t understand what it’s supposed to be. This is instant tea with matcha added. It’s an extremely common product in Japan and this is where I first encountered it. It’s the exact same as the ito-en powder that’s sold there but with more English on the packaging. I am thrilled that it’s being sold to the American market. You add about a teaspoon of tea to half a cup of water. Adjust for taste. It dissolves effortlessly in hot water and pretty easily in cold water but I find the easiest way to consume this is to put it in a water bottle and shake vigorously. Read more

I wanted to use this powder as drinking matcha. As soon as I opened the bag I knew it wasn't going to be great quality. Anyone who drinks true matcha knows the smell it should have. The smell and the color were both off. I wasn't surprised with the quality given the price. True matcha is on the expensive side for a reason! Read more
