Old Bay is THE classic Maryland seafood seasoning. When McCormick couldn’t compete with them, they bought them. Thankfully, they left the recipe alone. But they screwed up the packaging. First, they went from a tin container to a plastic one, reducing the iconography. Recently, they went to a more elaborate, but poorly engineered shaker top. The pour side will not stay shut on its own, so I have to rubber-band it shut. Another tenth of a cent of plastic would probably prevent the chance of the Old Bay from going stale prematurely. Oh my, who does not love old bay! I put this on chicken, I use it in breading for fish, or shrimp. I make my own homemade vegetable soup with Frozen mixed vegetables, diced tomatoes, onions and celery, a bit of cayenne salt and pepper and of course old bay! You cannot have a decent vegetable soup without my favorite Old Bay! It's not just for seafood. We've even put it on French fries and homemade potato chips. The flavor is fantastic. It has the right amount of spices in it and it's not spicy. It's just absolutely perfect. I grew up near Maryland all the time. And if you've ever worked in restaurants in Maryland you know that they don't do anything without old bay. Everything from all you can eat crab, soups and stews especially Maryland she crab soup, and of course Maryland crab cakes and Marilyn fried Chicken even! It's a decent size container so it's well worth the money because it lasts in my spice cabinet even though I use it a lot. Old Bay is always in my cabinet.
