I’ve been using this Matter-enabled smart plug for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite smart home devices. Setup was incredibly easy — it paired smoothly with both my Apple Home and Alexa systems without needing any separate hub or account. The compatibility is truly universal; I even tested it with Google Home and SmartThings, and it worked flawlessly across all platforms. The Thread connection really sets it apart — it responds instantly when I turn things on or off through the app or voice command. Even when my Wi-Fi went down briefly, it still worked perfectly through my local network. The compact size is another bonus since it doesn’t block the other outlet. In terms of durability, the plug feels solid and well-built — the casing is sturdy, and it doesn’t overheat even after continuous use with appliances like lamps, humidifiers, and coffee makers. It’s clearly made to last. I’ve also set up timers and schedules, and it’s been running consistently without any glitches. The privacy focus is a big plus — no cloud registration, no data tracking, just secure local control. Grouping multiple plugs and sharing access with family was simple, too. Overall, this smart plug delivers on every front: it’s fast, durable, highly compatible, and private. A fantastic choice for anyone looking to make their smart home setup more reliable and future-proof. Read more

The Wemo Replacement I've Been Waiting For! Onvis S4 Delivers! I recently swapped out my Wemo plugs for the Onvis S4 Smart Plugs, and I'm extremely impressed. If you're looking for a Matter-over-Thread plug to replace your older Wi-Fi devices (especially given Wemo's looming unsupported status), this is an excellent choice, even with a minor hiccup along the way. Blazing Fast Responsiveness Thanks to Matter over Thread, the response time is almost instantaneous. Tapping the switch in the Apple Home app results in an immediate power toggle. My old Wi-Fi plugs often had a noticeable delay or would show "No Response"—I haven't had that issue with the S4. The Thread mesh network is incredibly fast and reliable. Setup - Mostly a Breeze Initial setup with the Matter QR code was quick and painless for most of the plugs. I was up and running in minutes, and the compact size means two fit perfectly in a standard US outlet without blocking each other. * Initial Setup: Scan Matter QR code, and it added right to HomeKit/Matter hub. * Form Factor: Doesn't block the second outlet—a huge plus! Top-Tier Tech Support (A Hidden Gem!) I did run into a single issue with one plug that refused to setup. This is where Onvis truly shone. I contacted their customer support, and they were incredibly responsive and helpful. They quickly guided me through a few steps, and when those didn't work, they promptly arranged for a replacement. They genuinely cared about getting me fully operational. This level of support is a huge peace of mind for a smart home product. Overall Verdict The Onvis S4 is a fantastic plug. It's fast, compact, and the Matter compatibility makes it future-proof. While I had one minor issue, their excellent tech support turned a potential frustration into a positive experience. Highly recommended for anyone in the Apple Home looking for a snappy, reliable upgrade—it's a great replacement for older, soon-to-be-unsupported devices like Wemo. Read more

Update: Ok I'm giving up on these things and going with something Zigbee. No matter what I tried half of the 8 plugs I bought are constantly dropping off and going unresponsive. They are in the same room from ones that do work and not far at all from the hub. Direct line of sight with no walls in the way. Zigbee devices I have in the same area are doing just fine so I'm switching to Zigbee based plugs. Review revised to 1 star for the high failure rate. Original review: Purchased 8 of these to use in natively in HomeKit thinking Thread/Matter is better and now I'm not sure. 4 are working fine. The other 4 keep falling into "device offline" and I think I might know why. The 4 that keep dropping off are plugged in right next to each other in the same outlet (2 smart plugs each in 2 different outlets). I am guessing this results in some kind of interference in the radio signals when they are that close to each other. I routinely have to reset them to get rid of the dreaded "device offline" messages in HomeKit. This is a total pain because I have to get up on a ladder to get to the outlets they are plugged into (above kitchen cabinets). The four that are working fine are all by themselves in separate outlets far away from each other. At least one of those is in the same area (the kitchen) with the ones that keep dropping off so I do not think it is a range issue. My HomeKit hub (AppleTV) is line of site about 20' away. Shouldn't be an issue at all. FWIWI I don't have this issue at all with any of my Zigbee devices. I have several switch boxes with multiple smart switches in them in very close proximity to each other and that doesn't seem to affect them at all. So maybe this is a Matter/Thread thing or maybe these particular Onvis smart outlets are just not great. To debug this some more I'm going to try putting extension cords above the kitchen cabinets to separate these things and see if the issue is resolved. If it is not fixed by separating them then I'll just assume 4 of the 8 are bad and this review will be revised to a 1 star for a 50% failure rate. I'll update this review either way. Read more
