These lights turn on at night as expected and turn off in the daylight. I bought the brighter white. Easy to set up - just screw in the bulb and turn on the light switch. Initially the bulb will turn on, then turn off. If dark, it will then turn on again. Have been using these for a couple of months so far. Read more

I have these bulbs in my ourdoor lights on my garage. I love that they turn on when it starts to get dark and turn off at sunrise. Not too bright, but bright enough for people to see. Read more

Good dusk to dawn lightbulb so I don’t have to install a new light. I always forget to leave the outdoor light on at night but also don’t want to leave it on all day. This does the job but it’s not adjustable. I would prefer being able to set the light level that triggers it but it’s fine for the price. It’s bright too. 60 watt equivalent according to the package. One thing to note it seems that it turns on no matter what when you first screw it in. I thought it wasn’t going to work but when I went back out later it was off and came on later once it’s dark. I just thought since it came on when I put it in it was broken or too sensitive but just a feature do you know it’s working maybe? Read more

We have lampposts at the end of our driveway that we have had on a timer for years. In the past, we’ve needed to adjust the timer on the lights a few times during the year to account for earlier or later sunsets. Since installing these automatic light sensing lightbulbs, we’ve just left the lights in the “on” position and let the lightbulbs turn on each night at dusk and turn off when the sun comes up in the morning. These light bulbs have been in our lampposts now for several months and have worked perfectly every day. They are very bright and illuminate a nice area around them. They have lasted—which is saying something because they are on for HOURS every night. They are incredibly easy to install—they just screw in to your existing light bulb socket. Excellent product!! I installed this for our outside light. It's plenty bright. I installed it during the daytime; the lightbulb stayed lit for ~2 minutes, and then it turned off. My guess is that it only checks the light sensor every few minutes. That makes sense. You don't need to waste power by checking every microsecond, and neither weather nor sunset is going to move quickly enough for a few minutes of delay to matter. I wondered if I would see dimmed brightness, like during sunset, or if it would just switch between fully off and fully on. I did not observe any dimming. Granted, it's not like I waited outside to see the moment it switched from off to on, so it's possible it does do dimming and I just missed it. And that's not likely to be a decision-making factor, anyways. I was just curious. The positioning of the light sensor is interesting. The way it's set up is that the metal threaded bit can be rotated independently from the white body of the bulb, up to a certain amount. When you hold the bulb in your hand, it feels like it doesn't rotate very far, just like 90 degrees or so. But once you screw it into the socket, the friction of the socket allows it to rotate probably ~350 degrees. So, it might feel out of the box like it's not going to work, but it'll work just fine once you put it into the socket. I am satisfied with this product, and I'm probably gonna buy some for my parents' house. Read more

I live alone (with my dogs) on a street where the street lights are few and far between, and where there has been the occasional break-in and car theft and catalytic converter stolen, so I put up cameras around the house. Then I realized that my cameras needed a little more light to sense motion and capture anything clearly, so I have begun using dusk to dawn bulbs in all my outdoor light fixtures. These bulbs seem to be good quality, nice and bright, and they fit in my small enclosed fixtures on my deck. I like the spot on these to help me make sure I've got the sensor where it needs to be. I haven't noticed a significant increase in my electric bill since I started using d-to-d bulbs and cameras, and the cost of buying and using them is less than the cost of security systems and services that are available in my area. I was afraid my neighbors would not appreciate having lights on next door all night but they either haven't mentioned the lights or have thanked me for keeping them on as it makes them feel safer. I also feel much safer coming and going after dark and taking my dogs out in a lighted back yard in the middle of the night. So far no prowlers, peeking Toms or tresspassers caught on camera--the lights also make the cameras visible at night so that probably helps discourage unwanted visitors! Read more
