These cards changed my life, for the better.

Harold PomeroyOctober 12, 2025✓ Verified purchase

It was a difficult point in my life. More accurately, I was being a difficult point in other people's lives. In High school I just loved office supplies, more than I should have. Coming from a meager home, we didn't have enough money for Mom's diabetes medicine, let alone fancy pens and paper. The unfairness of it all drove me to non-stop anger. I started stealing office supplies from the school store room. Pens, Sharpies, colored paper clips, whatever. Not a lot at once, just some of everything. Then I broke into an office supply store, loaded up a back pack with pens, pencils, note cards, and a stapler, walked out the door into the arms of the police. The judge sentenced me to community service. I had to work for the city, cleaning up and improving a woods trail on Hockanum Hill. Every day after school and weekends I would be out there, picking up trash, killing exotic invasive plants, greeting people with a cheery "Hello!". Near the top of the hill was a boulder, about as big as a small dumpster. There were horizontal crevices in the rock all around it. Eight different mosses and 4 different lichens were growing on the rock. I worked less, and spent more time just being quite beside the rock. And lonely. I wrote love notes on Oxford Index Cards, 3 x 5 Inches, White, Lined on Front, Blank on Back, Flashcards for School, and left them in the rock. I had an imaginary girlfriend, I would write Haikus about each variety of moss and lichen, and leave the cards in the cracks in the rock. The Sharpies and 3 x 5 cards I had stolen were coming in handy. A few days later, I was back, contemplating nature, longing for girls, and writing Haiku. I noticed that the cards I had stuck in the rock had moved. Opening one, I found that someone had left a note! In girlish script, someone had written "Oh Harold, How I live your Haiku! Each day I come here to read your new writings! When I read your Haiku, I feel one with Nature, and my heart sings!" The next day I skipped school, and stood by the rock singing my romantic nature Haiku. Soon a young woman glided into the glade, and we skipped on down the the Justice of the Peace and got married. They are decent index cards, but not as thick as the ones I used to buy...

Doug in AZMay 2, 2023✓ Verified purchase

I use index cards a lot. I use them for grocery lists, notes, little reminders for my wife and kid, just generally lots of things instead of a paper notepad. I had a whole bunch of note cards and I finally was running out and needed to resupply. I bought these (the Oxford brand) as I have found the brand names to be a little better quality. The price for 500 cards was really good, so I figured this was a pretty good choice. Unfortunately, it was not exactly what I expected. When I cracked open a package of the cards, I found them to be much thinner and more flimsy than the cards I had before. They were not "paper thin", but they were not like card stock either. I would describe them as kind of thick paper, versus what I normally think of a "card stock". Since I still had a few old cards, I could compare them directly and the new ones were much thinner. They will still do the job, but they just feel a lot less like cards and more like thick note paper in an index card format. I guess it is like so many other things now where manufacturers are cutting costs. it is kind of like the grocery store where the item you used to buy is still the same price, but there isn't as much product in the box. This feels a little like that. I will use these, but next time I will look for something that is a little more like the index card that I am accustomed to using...a little sturdier and thicker. And I am perfectly willing to pay a little more for better quality... This may or may not matter to you for your purposes, so please understand there is nothing "wrong" with them...they just aren't what I expected, so I am only rating them 4 stars out of 5. Read more
