Turns out the straps are far more adjustable than that review lead me to believe. Very useful for carrying water or other drink bottles. HOWEVER... The flap that goes over the main pocket zipper is only held in place with a little magnetic button, NOT a zipper or a clip. This means that as I ride, particularly on the highway, the wind grabs the flap and disconnects the magnet button, and then the flap just whips around freebird, which is super irritating.
