The handle and frame of this Cheese Slicer is excellent! The problem lies with the 3 replaceable wires. The plastic end that mates with the tension roller is very soft plastic and strips out very easily. I don't know who engineered the plastic, but they failed miserably. Read more

This slicer is a step up from the cheap pot-metal wire slicer we used for so many years. This one is sturdy, comfortable in the hand, and the wire is tight. It has what appears to be an excellent method to keep the wire tight, or to replace it, if needed. It comes with a second wire so it should give years of service. I may be a touch bias here because I just love OXO products. I have had so much success over the years with everything I have bought from OXO, and you will find many of their product high on "Best..." product lists. AND besides...if it's good enough for Test Kitchen is more than good enough for the masses. This cheese slicer is a replacement for a random one that I had for year, but this OXO slicer is much better and has replacement wires...BONUS! I love that you can adjust the tension if needed, but I keep it pretty taught to get perfect slices every time. I think the key here is to not over tighten or guess what...it will break. If there is any suggestions I would have it would be...1. if you are trying to use this for hard cheese like Parmesan...don't...buy a metal cheese planer, 2. don't over tighten the wire...snug it up, give it a try, and then make micro adjustment using the adjuster wheel and 3. don't hold you thumb on the adjustment wheel or it might loosen. I suspect most problems that others have reported with this product is mostly due to user error! ;-) I would definitely recommend this OXO cheese slicer and I look forward to many years of use. This item would be a very nice slicer if only the wire would stay tight. The wire keeps slipping to the side and getting very loose, making it useless. Read more

I've used this slicer for several years without issue and have even purchased them as a gifts. Recently the wire would pop loose with each use. I installed one of the replacement wires provided with the slicer and realized the tensioning wheel had cracked so the wire would pull loose with any applied tension. It also renders the spare wires useless. Upon further inspection, I found the wheel had a defect (bubble) in the plastic at the failure location. No question the defect in the wheel material resulted in its failure. I addressed this with OXO on their warranty form and they sent me a replacement. Thanks! Read more
