Welcome, Chris Keller!!

Trishalineβ€”July 18, 2006βœ“ Verified purchase

The second season of OZ does not disappoint at all because new colorful characters are added to the mix. Best of all, Christopher Keller. There is an immediate attraction between Keller and Beecher, however, Beecher finds out that it's all an illusion because Keller is working with Schillinger to get revenge on Beecher for messing up Schillinger's chance to get parole. However, through all this, Keller realizes that he does in fact love Beecher back, however, in the 2nd season, he doesn't realize it yet, but just plays the game to lead Beecher on and then to hurt him for Schillinger's sake. Along with this homoerotic drama unfolding, we have new inmates killing, falling in love, revealing plots and even graduating in the 1st ever GED program through the prison. This is also the season where Chucky Pantanmo, Busalis, Jaz Hoyt and other main characters come on board. I believe season 2 is much better than season 1 simply because of the new love unfolding for Beecher to Keller. Beecher has never fallen in love with a man before, so this is all new for him, but he doesnt' consider himself gay. He just appreciates the love, care and sympathy that Keller is giving him while his life is unraveling on the outside due in part to Schillinger's forces to do so. Read more

Somewhere over the rainbow indeed

LadyArmandβ€”February 5, 2003βœ“ Verified purchase

Somewhere over the rainbow is a place called OZ, only in getting to this Emerald City one has to have committed a crime. In this Emerald City the goal isn't to get in to see the wizard the goal here is to survive to the next day. And along the way you pick up the tricks of the trade in doing so and some other nasty little tricks as well. Tom Fontana thrust us into this world making us look at it through the eyes of one Tobias Beecher, he represents the every man. Through him we see there is no such thing as just doing your time and getting out. Through Tobias we see just how a person can be pushed to his limits and beyond. Things one wouldn't in their everyday life on the outside become second nature in OZ. Because no matter how meek one may appear the goal at the end of the day is to live to hear the guard say "lights out." And as we see through Tobias that instinct to survives will win out. This is questionably the best season in a series of great seasons. It gives us a more detailed background into the lives of the men and women in OZ. We get to see their motivations and how they respond when treatened. This season is about denial, revenge, betrayal, and the budding of a truely twisted love affair that for some reason we find outselves rooting for dispite what we know which is: "It is not nor it cannot come to good. But break my heart for I must hold my tongue..." Hamlet... Read more

Incredible acting and writing!

ClarityOfMindβ€”August 16, 2016βœ“ Verified purchase

Many of the people put in prison should be paroled and/or put through rehab… It's much cheaper and more effective at preventing many people from becoming more criminally-minded. That being said, I highly recommend this series for every award it can get for its great acting, writing and empathetic skill to involve The audience strongly in many ways as way too many of us have/had somebody in prison. From these stories most people can do you do use that subject i from these stories most people can deduce that prison is the wrong choice for many of its detainees… Fines, parole and rehab would benefit the individuals and society much better. "Oz" really hits the nail on the reality of prison while it weaves in many emotions such as humor, sadness, empathy and more to clearly illustrate these are human beings being a locked away and herded like animals. The series is clearly a worthwhile investment as it provides a realistic representation of what goes on in prison and mesmerizes its audience. My family really enjoys every episode although we are conscious that the USA as more people incarcerated than anybody else in the world. Definitely worth your consideration to buy this series. Best HBO series ever!!

Jamesβ€”April 14, 2014βœ“ Verified purchase

Best HBO series ever!! I just wish they made more seasons... The cast is great, from Ernie Hudson (Warden Glynn) to J.K. Simmons (Vern Schillinger). The storyline is well thought out and true to life. I have no problem with the show it's self at all... but I did have an issue with 2 of the discs. I bought all 6 seasons, and seasons 5 and 6 had one problem disc each. I only missed the last half of couple episodes. And one of the episodes was skipping around a little. All in all I would buy again and recommend to anyone (ADULTS ONLY). Read more

Oz. Great Original Series.

clarence jacksonβ€”May 5, 2015βœ“ Verified purchase

Oz: Season 2. If you like drama, suspense and overall great entertainment, then this original series by HBO is a must see. However, I must warn viewers that it is based on prison life and is extremely graphic and violent. (Obviously for adults only). It has a great cast comprised of veteran-to- fresh-faced actors that make this show work. Once you see your first episode, it will be almost impossible to pull yourself away from the TV. Read more

Violence, Sex, Language and Nudity...if it offends you..dont watch. Then again...why are you reading a review on a PRISON...

Karlyβ€”August 24, 2015βœ“ Verified purchase

I read the reviews beforehand and was a little skeptical on begining this show. Some said it was the same ol thing, it was depressing, etc etc. I jumped into it anyways seeing as how I love to watch shows with multiple seasons. After a few episodes I got hooked. Sure, there is a lot of nudity, sex, language, violence, etc....but it's set in a PRISON. If you didn't expect this....you are a wee bit light in the head! I am on Season 4 or 5 now and am still watching. It's not one that I can't wait to rush home and watch or lose sleep over but it's worth watching. It doesn't quite have the "Orange is the New Black" draw but it is still good. The narrations by the character in the wheelchair are great! I love those. :) Read more
