Was hesitant on getting those so first got regular dumbbells but needed more weights so decided to give it a try - love them more than I expected. 1. Comfort of holding them is great, I got some weight plates (small diameter) and they are perfect and don’t get on the way. I use them as-is for my back exercises but got silicon grip handles (separately) and they provide amazing support for bicep workouts. 2. Ease of putting weights on and off - quick and easy. I do not like the weight clippers that they came with - they stick out too much (but kind of good if you use them since they’ll stop your dumbbell from rolling away) so I use other clamps I’ve already had. 3. Length - is perfect, makes it convenient and not overwhelmingly huge dumbbell, this length actually feels natural. So yeah, I’m not buying those single weight dumbbells anymore for sure, should’ve gotten these instead. Read more

I wanted to add dumbbells to my workouts, and since we have Oly plates, it made sense to get Oly dumbbells. I'm only 5'4" with small hands, so I prefer a shorter dumbbell, and after considering all the 15" and 16" handles, I chose these AboveGenius Pair of 16" Olympic Dumbbell Handles based on the price, the reviews and the 16 inch length. They arrived in a box that was falling apart, but they were fine - the ends are wrapped in plastic and packed in foam, which is nice. Nothing had any smells or issues, although the manual was torn in 2 places. The handles looked good with no scratches or other damage at all. I weighed each one, and each weighed 7.1xx pounds, very close to the same weight as one another although not the 8.3 pounds listed in the description. The collar spin is good for 'bells at this price - nice, smooth spin. The end caps are snapped-in plastic, not exactly high-end, but then these are budget dumbbell handles, so that's fine. There's a little rattle in each one - I notice it, but it's not really an issue. but it's not bad. Both my 6'7" husband and me at 5'4" found them comfortable to use. If you like grooved collars, you'll like these, and the grooves probably work really well with the spring clamps. I'm using my own clamps with the handles like I do with our other bars, but if you don't have clamps, the included ones will come in handy. I personally prefer smooth collars with quieter spin, but that's the only thing I didn't like about this pair of handles. We're really happy with these. If you're a beginner they'll be great for getting started, and if you have been using spin-lock handles, these are better and much faster to change the plates on. The knurling is passive but it's good enough to keep your hands from slipping. Overall I'd say these were 4 star dumbbell handles, but when you factor in the price - we paid $59.99 for them - I'm giving them a fifth star for value. Read more

I’ve been doing exclusively barbell work for a while now and decided to add dumbbells. I really like the ease of use of the quick-adjust style like bow flex but was turned off by the cost, especially when I already have a bunch of weights. I looked into spinlocks but they pretty much all were 1 inch and I only have 2 inch plates. These fit the bill perfectly. I went with these specifically because they are 16” vs most of the others which are 20” wide. 16 is definitely the right choice, I can do any motion and they don’t feel too wide or hit each other. Your max weight will be limited to how many plates you can fit, but with my standard 5lb plates I can easily get 4 on each side with my thick collar locks, so about 50lb. If you switch to spring clips you could easily push that to 70 or 80lb using only 5s. I think 10s would be a little too large and get in the way of certain exercises. Speaking of spring clips, throw the included ones straight in the trash, they suck and the coating flaked off literally the first time I squeezed them. Overall I highly recommend these, I forgot how much I missed doing dumbbell work and these make it so easy and affordable. Read more
