They don't darken as much as typical sunglasses I wear, which isn't necessarily negative, but something to be aware of. The Good: They do dim when sunlight hits the sensors. The effect is enough to be quickly noticeable and the darkening happens very quickly. The Bad: The functionality, as far as using them as sunglasses, is pretty poor. The glasses are a little bulky feeling, and the clarity through them is low, and there is some distortion present. If any bit of shadow crosses over the sensor, the glasses go back to full brightness, so if you are looking up through the trees and a branch is moving and casts a shaow on you, the lenses will rapidly go in and out of the dimming response. I hoped these would be a little more practical than they are. The idea is sound, but I thihk there needs to be more work done to make the glasses comfortable and optically clear before the implementation of dimming technology becomes useful. These are decent sunglasses, but they’re fairly expensive versus a standard pair of sun glasses. They do change darkness of the lens depending on the light present - but it’s disconcerting when walking in a neighborhood that has tall trees that create on and off shade throughout your walk. I am not a fan of that constant change and found it mildly irritating. The fit was okay, but a bit tighter than expected. The polarization was good and they offered good eye protection in the harsh afternoon sunlight. The color and style were basic. Nothing truly fashionable about them … I will recommend these if you’re really interested in this auto darkness functionality ….or if you have the constant need to change the ‘darkness’ of the lens to mirror the outside light conditions. It works, but I’m not a big fan of how they actually work when there’s trees in the equation. Read more
