I looked forward with anticipation for this movie. As a little boy my Mom used to read to me the fantastic tales from PETER AND WENDY, the original title and and early publication the the works, I loved NEVERLAND, another pre-history of Peter and the Lost Boys, but I feared this film may have been a flop. There has been a fury of expensive movies lately that had bombed such as EX0DUS. However, I liked this one; I found it extremely well produced, excellent cast (especially Peter) and outstanding special effects. Some of the effects almost overwhelm the viewer, Note: I don't know what happened to the rest of my reviews, but take my word for it; if you like fastasys and great special effects, you will like this one, though the visiuals you may find are a bit overwhelming! FiveStars and I got mine from Amazon. and I saw it in 2D not 3D though I have the 3D Dvd here; I did not see it in the theater. This was much darker than I thought it would be: I thought it would be more cartoony than NEVERLAND, but it was about the same. Not really a childrens movie, this seemed more for people like me who grew up with the original story. It is very violent at times, but at the end the good guys win (for the moment). We meet most of the familiar cast such as Smee and Hook. Here, Hook was well cast as a rather INDIANA JONES look a like and act a like. Brave at times, interested at times only in his own interests. And had the hots for Tiger Lilly! Neverland here is well portayed with very serrealistic settings (filmed in Vietnam I read) as well as the big Warner Bros Studios north of London. Some beautiful photography spliced in with an outstanding musical background. This was made at the same place JUPITER ASCENDING was done. I liked that movie very much also. Some similar weirdness here and there and I lumped these two movies in "unusual category" along with TOMORROWLAND and INTERSTELLER (which s**ked) but never the less I really liked PAN & JUPITER and recommend them both, especially PAN. FIVE STARS for excellent cast (especially Peter), super music, great special effects and steady entertainment (few lulls!). And a creepy Blackbeard! Kind of an odd movie but very entertaining. Enjoy! This is a great film not only for children but for anyone who loves adventure movies. I say it's way better then HOOK the movie made some time ago by Steven Spielberg in so many ways. It is because the budget was twice more as that one and althought the movie was a huge failure at the boxoffice but the director is a legendary art filmmaker who made great films like <Pride&Prejudice><Atonment> and he also had experience making popular film like <Hanna> which was a great film combined with Chemical Brothers' great computer music. Now that critics and audiences are all gathered trying to burry this movie into hell, I had small expepectation about this film. But agian it is Joe Write we are talking about. Even the most horrible fillm he made <Anna Karenina> was not a garbage at all. When first time I saw this film, I was so tired and felt into sleep during watching and I did buried it for 3 months. Now this moring about 5 AM, I watched again with a fresh mind. It was gorgeous. The nature, the scenary of the movie was just stunning to watch and the art work is dazzling all around the running time. The flying ships, the colorful clothes that Rooney Mara's tribe people are wearing, the cliff mountain, the neverland, the England view, the cablecar, the flying view, the boing boing thing and so on. But most of all, Garrett Hedlund who played Hook, Hugh Jackman who played Blackbeard, Levi Miller who played Peter Pan, Rooney Mara who played Tiger Elly were truely lovable and they all are so charming in so many ways. Without Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins all those star actors, this movie was way more superior then the movie HOOK for me at least. This movie is a story before Peter Pan goes to the neverland and stays there for good. He was abandoned by his mother when he was born and lived in an orphenage and one day this bunch of guys come from the sky with ropes and take them to the neverland. They are looking for the chosen one who is, the PAN. Pan is a son of a fairy who is killed by Blackbeard who is a villain. The interesting thing is Hook is not a bad guy yet. He is a friendly guy who helps Pan. Together with Tiger Elly's support, they all acheive the freedom from Blackbeard's evil power and lived in the neverland. That's the basic story. I’ve always loved this story, which, being almost 60, I learnt from reading the books. I’ve watched every movie version as well as the old musical, but I’d have to say, this is my favourite. It has everything an origin story should have, except Wendy, but, just everything else. It leaves questions open, such as, how did Captain Hook go from duo handed good guy to mono handed bad guy, but that’s a story for another dy I guess. The whole WWII era was handled in such an interesting way, and how the lost boys and others got to Never Never Land. I guess this all reflects on the high qUality imaginative writing, amazing cinematography, costuming, and direction. But, the actors are of an evenly high standard. The result is a most entertaining and high quality movie. Read more
