This is a good brush indeed. Boar hair brushes are definitely not for young, sensitive faces. For those young folks considering a boars hair brush, it's definitely not soft. On the 1-5 scale it's a 2.5. As you are young your whiskers are plenty soft as is your skin, but as you age your whiskers diameter will get a bit thicker. Buuut.... With age whiskers will get as tough as a same diameter copper wire. No, brushes and shave creams don't do a grand job of softening whiskers. Hot water does that. Cream is designed to do a bit of softening but mostly it's for protecting the skin buy allowing the razor to glide. Technically you can use regular soap for that. No foam needed. Oils not so hot..... they can be a bother to wash off. The benefit for younger skin would be a badger hair brush. It wouldn't take much effort to apply a small layer of foam and it's mild on young skin. But the benefit of boars hair is two fold. It's an excellent exfoliate. No, it doesn't retain a lot of water. You don't really need it to either. There are ways around it. One of those ways I do employ. A good shave cream stick like La Toja. A hot wet face, rub the stick around, a damp boars hair brush (not sopping wet) and whip your face into a thin foamy lather. (thick foam defeats overkill for the purpose) It's really super nice. I do hope this helps you in your decision. Read more

This is exactly the kind of shaving brush I have been looking for. For me, boar hair brushes are the best because they lather up so well and give your face that invigorating work-over that lets it know it's in for a real shave. This brush is very stiff and thickly packed with bristles and it produces lots of lather; nevertheless, I find it very comfortable to shave with. It is also a high quality brush, which is very often not the case if you intentionally buy boar brushes. For some reason the wet shave world seems to be under the delusion that quality means badger. For the committed boar brush man, badger is everything you don't want a brush to be: limp and soppy - and nothing connected with this drippy, flaccid shaving experience can be called invigorating or in any way capable of preparing you to face the rigors of the day. Three cheers to Parker for giving us a well-made boar brush that's everything a shaving brush should be. Read more

Brush seems well constructed with nicely stiff bristles and stand is secure and better quality than expected as a free extra bit. Read more

Based on some other reviews, I want to let potential buyers know that this is a smaller than average brush. Which is what I was looking for. This brush is great for travel and is great if you want your kid to join in on the fun of making lather. Great for hard soaps and produces decent lather. Handle is nice and the stand gets the job done. If you’re looking for a good travel brush or simply want to have a spare boar brush to switch up from the badger/synthetic experience, this is a brush for you! Read more

Love it. Last time I had a brush it was the old drugstore purchase. This time I decided to get s good brush. Only few bristles came off when I first used it, after that, no problem. I like the texture of the brush. The word appears to be holding up well. I like the fact you get a stand included. (OK a clear plastic stand but still it is a stand. Curious how it compares to a Bagger hair brush. Overall, this brush is a great value. I enjoy using it. In years to come I may move up to a nicer stand (hint hint to my children). I recommend it. This product is a good value for the money and a great addition to any wet shaver's product line. I also own a pure badger brush from the Art of Shaving store that cost almost 5 times as much but to be honest I like this one almost as much. I have found that while pure badger hair retains moisture a little better than Boar, the Boar is certainly a little stiffer. This can be an advantage for someone like me who has a thick, rough, beard. I think it helps me get a closer shave without having to brush up as much if that makes sense. I like to pair this with Colonel Conk almond shave soap. Odds are you will like this just fine but try a badger brush too because it feels nice as well. The stiffness of the brush makes for easy lathering of a soap bar as well. Rated 4 stars because the Parker lettering/trim was cheaply printed on but this doesn't affect functionality so I just wiped it all off, so now its plain wood and is nice enough. Read more
