Separates nicely when you try, but doesn't unravel on its own. The colors are vibrant and stay fast through machine washing and drying, and the threads hold their shape & don't distort. Seems plenty strong, I use it for hand sewing as well as embroidery. Be aware that the hanks are sorted by DMC number and not color family, so you may want to go through and re-sort them.
