Unfortunately, it’s an industry filled with empty promises and snake oil that preys on desperate people, and too often the only thing you really get is hope. The truth is, results will always depend on the cause of your hair loss. That’s why I encourage you to first find out what’s behind your hair loss before investing in products, and make sure whatever you choose actually addresses the root cause. This serum is not likely to regrow hair from long-dormant (miniaturized) follicles the way minoxidil (brand name Rogaine) can. What it can do is nourish and condition your follicles and scalp, which may encourage stronger, fuller strands of the hair you still have. It contains rosemary oil, which has shown some potential to improve circulation and possibly inhibit DHT. But there aren’t any large-scale studies proving rosemary works like minoxidil. Part of the reason may be that there’s no real money in studying rosemary oil. Follow the money, right? Rosemary may help support thinning or weakened follicles, but it hasn’t been proven to reactivate follicles that have stopped producing hair. This is a smooth in texture oil. Because it’s an oil, there is some greasiness to it. I’d recommend that you go easy at first—starting with about a quarter less than the directions suggest if you’re applying it to your scalp. The instructions say to “fill the dropper, apply directly, and massage in.” But if you use a full dropper, your hair will likely get greasy. The first time I used it, my hair was so oily I had to apply dry shampoo to absorb it. If you have fine hair, it can weigh it down, so use sparingly until you figure out the right amount. The application is simple and my hair is shiny. I’ll continue using this product because I like maintaining a healthy, nourished scalp, and if it helps my hair look thicker, I am all for it. It’s loaded with beneficial oils to condition the scalp and encourage the appearance of thicker, fuller hair—just have realistic expectations and remember that results depend on the underlying cause of your hair loss. This works well as a beard oil — it softens hair, smells nice, and makes your beard look healthier. The ingredients are loaded with popular oils and supplements tied to growth, like rosemary and biotin. If you believe in those, it’s nice to have them in one formula. Where it falls short is the “growth” promise. It’s not going to create new hair where there isn’t any, and it’s best to treat it as a conditioning oil with maybe a slight bonus if the ingredients agree with you.
