Great Value

This is a great knife for under $30. PROS: - Perfect lock up - Smooth roller action - G10 is nicely finished and feels like higher-end micarta CONS: - Did not arrive as sharp as some competitors - Nothing special or exciting This gem by Petrified Fish rivals the quality of knives that cost >$100 a decade ago. (Note: it is manufactured in China.) I accidentally grabbed it the day it arrived in place of my usual folder and it spent a day working on my farm with me. It was solid, sharp and performed great. Compared to <$30 folders, the D2 steel is not as nice as my Ruike with 14c28n steel and the blade size-to-handle and geometry is not as nice as my Ganzo Firebird. However, the pocket clip is stronger than the Ganzo's (which I have broken twice) and the fit and finish is better than m Ruike. (I've given 3 Ruike's as gifts and the quality varies.) Overall, you can't go wrong with this as a beater knife. It needs some sharpening out of the box but performs like D2 always does once sharpened. Read more

An Affordable High-Quality Knife

The Petrified Fish PF818 is a high-quality knife at a great price. I decided to go with the grey G10 for the handle and a satin finish for the blade itself. The grey looks more of a bluish grey color which looks very good. The knife uses D2 which is great for keeping its edge for a longer amount of time in comparison to other metals that are used. The blade size is not very thick and not thin it is very proportional. I did the paper test, and the blade was able to easily cut through it without any trouble. The flipper action is also very easy to use as it very smooth. The ergonomics are very good as I can easily hold this one with hand without it feeling too large or too small. As a nice touch they included a microfiber cloth and a sticker. I have never owned a Petrified Fish knife before, but this knife looks like it could compete with the much more expensive brands but at an affordable price. Read more

Great Quality, Great Value!

This was my 1st Petrified Fish, and it compelled me to buy others since. This PF818 Forward (green Micarta/satin) blew me away by the bang for the buck. The Micarta handles are comfy, fit well, and look great. The D2 satin blade is flawless. It came sharp, well-centered, has good detent, is fairly snappy, and had very little play. The liner lock feels very solid. I've spent far more than this on a knife, and the fit and finish is right up there with the industry leaders. PF is punching well above their weight class and offer a fantastic value. I would definitely recommend this product. Read more

Great knife great price

Great knife! Extremely sharp out of the box, and holds an edge very well. Very smooth action when deploying the blade. Only issue I had was that the pivot point bolt came out in my pocket, solved with blue loctite. Not too heavy of a knife and fits well in my pocket. I use it as an edc tool. Opening boxes, cutting rope, sharpening pencils, etc Read more

It's a nice blade

Nice quality knife for the money. It's a bit heavier than what I personally would have liked, but feels solid and operates smoothly, especially opening. Read more

Best money I’ve spent for a blade

This is the best knife purchase I’ve ever made. It has quality of materials and finishing on par with knives 4-5 times the price!! It uses D2 steel for the blade which some people don’t like, they think it’s hard to sharpen and indeed it can be if you don’t have the right tools for the job. Hard steel like D2? Diamond sharpening stones and once you’ve mastered technique? You can sharpen 3 D2 blades in the same time as it takes someone to sharpen 440 on a whetstone 💯 It came out of the box with an excellent edge, but I like all of mine sharp enough to shave with so I ran it a few passes on my 10,000 grit diamond honing stone. I can take see thru slices off a tomato now and the knife doesn’t even slow down. I love the locking mechanism, no frills and locks up tight and is dead reliable. It’s a lightweight knife despite having a little more size and it’s the best balanced knife I own now. It’s smack in the sweet spot of the blade. Chinese or no Chinese, these David Chen blades are finer than anything made anywhere, except maybe the Japanese stuff and would give Benchmade a run for its money on fit a finish and overall build quality. I’m out of adjectives now to extol its virtues so in parting? Buy 3-5 of them NOW before they jack the price up. They’re badly undervalued . Read more

Perfect size and 3.6 oz means lock feedback, substantial and interesting

This is the perfect size for an XL hand. When you are using a flipper knife and wonder what a good flipper is ..... This. Nothing premium but absolutely flawless and good in light gloves too. The blade is full of cool angles and the jimping is perfectly done. The handle is the perfect size and the petrified fish trilobite was a bit too small at 4' but 4.5" handle seems perfect. The weird valley in the handle makes it very interesting. Just absolutely fun and practical for edc. Read more
