Excellent ultrasonic toothbrush! There are multiple settings for daily cleaning, whitening, deep clean, etc. What I love about this toothbrush is the small brush heads that do not have any place to trap bacteria/slime as the larger brush heads do from the lower end Sonicare models. This model also comes with a convenient travel case that doubles as a charger when on the road. The regular charger is a glass which sits on a small base. The glass easily cleans by hand or in the dishwasher. Read more

This toothbrush rocks! Glass charger works and looks fantastic, as does the hand piece itself! Cleans my teeth extremely well. Replacement brush heads, depending on which style(s), aren't cheap and sometimes hard to find in stock, but worth it. Carrying case is cool too. Read more

Pros: - Cleans significantly better than a manual toothbrush - Charge lasts 3 weeks - Pulses to let you know when to move on to each section - Travel case is a big win. With my prior electric toothbrushes, I often ended up traveling with a manual just because I didn't have a convenient way to store the electric - Variety of modes is great for a whole spectrum of dental preferences Cons: - Like others have said, It's odd that you can't set the mode prior to turning it on and putting it in your mouth. It leads you to have to either count the number of times you push the button, or angle it so you can see the display in the mirror. - The instructions are very vague regarding the timer and quadrant pulses. I started with using the gum mode and thought I was following along switching quadrants every time it pulsed, but then found myself with an extra 4 or so pulses at the end that I didn't know what to do with. It would be nice if the instructions had a table that called out specifically when the pulses occur for each mode so we know when to move to the next section. - There's another model of sonicare that pulses when you push too hard. For the price of this one, I feel like it'd be nice if it had that feature too. - The glass charger is neat and a convenient storage place, but I think I'd prefer if it could stand straight up in its stand rather than let it lean against things. - The green charging indicator light is very dull and difficult to see in the daylight. There are other excellent reviews here of this brush, but I wasn't able to find a good description of the 5 different vibration modes in either the product description or the reviews, so here it is. Like all Sonicare models the Philips Sonicare HX939V turns off automatically after a certain length of time, and that time is divided into shorter segments to help you make sure you are brushing evenly. The marker between segments is heard as a short tone (higher frequency than the sound of the brush) and felt or seen as a momentary pause of the brush heads vibration. The brush has 5 different settings (modes). Each mode provides a different speed/pulse combination. Pressing the power button turns the unit on in the last mode used. Each press after (within 5 seconds) cycles through the different modes. The order is Clean, White, Sensitive, Gum Care, Deep Clean, power off. Clean is middle intensity, two minutes divided into four 30 second periods, then off. White is the same intensity as clean, but pulses rapidly. (Actually, it alternates every 2 seconds between rapid pulsing and continuous vibration. I'm guessing that it reduces the intensity for a tiny fraction of a second, about 20 times each second, to get the rapid pulsing effect.) This goes on for two minutes divided into 30 second periods. Then the vibration changes to slow pulsing, which goes on for 30 seconds divided into two 15 second periods, then off. The slow pulsing effect seems to be a smooth rise and fall of intensity (with the high intensity the same as clean mode) that occurs about 4 times a second. Sensitive is the lowest intensity, two minutes divided into four 30 second periods, then off. Gum care is the highest intensity, significantly stronger than Clean mode. It is two minutes divided into four 30 second periods, followed by another minute at Clean mode intensity divided into four 15 second periods, then off. Deep Clean is the same intensity as Gum Care, but pulses rapidly in the same way that White mode does (just stronger). This goes on for two minutes divided into four 30 second periods, then off. I also own an older Flexcare HX6930 in excellent condition. Interestingly, "Clean" mode of the Flexcare HX6930 is perceptively equal to "Gum Care" in the Diamond Clean HX939V, while "Sensitive" mode of the Flexcare HX6930 is perceptively equal to "Clean" mode of the Diamond Clean HX939V. That is, "Clean" mode of the new brush is significantly weaker (perceptively) than "Clean" mode of the older brush. Read more

This was so brilliant and wonderful out of the box. I'm a Sonicare fan for 6+ years. However 2 weeks time I started to notice that a drastic dip in effectiveness, it pauses mid-use at various intervals, does not leave a clean mouth feeling whatsoever. I experienced this with a previous device. It was covered under warranty and replaced. I've now moved out of the country and don't how to replace it. Read more
