The 757's most successful music producer shares his story in the most perfectly creative way...

When I first heard Pharrell was making an autobiographical documentary it piqued my interest of course, even while still swallowing the bitter taste of the region's redundant "rebranding" effort. After the hype dried up as quick as all the marketing gimicks trying to change the name of Hampton Roads there was little news about the movie that was going to tell the story of Pharrell's journey to success. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a friend brought this movie by one night and I was sucked into it in the first minute. This is the most creatively unique way to tell this story, and it's the perfect way. Halfway through the movie I realized I had actually heard this story told before, but from the other half of the Neptunes 15 years earlier so it was an even greater treat for this story to come full circle for me, Piece by Piece... Awesome movie for Lego and music fans

Pharrell telling his story with lego bricks was really cool. The Blu Ray as good extras and great quality. Read more

Inspiring movie

We went and saw this movie in theaters and I pre-ordered it the same day because my kiddos loved it so much. It's such an inspirational story about being true to yourself and embracing your inner weirdo. I wish I would've had this when I was a kid. Read more

Limited Acting Range

I saw this movie at the theater where there was a good mix of kids and adults. I've not had a viewing experience like this one . . . the audience was silent for the whole showing. No laughs, no audibles, nothing from kids nor adults. I think each demographic had their own expectations, and neither was sure of what they were watching. For me, this seemed like a documentary. There were voice overs and narrations to explain almost every major scene. Using Legos to tell the story was novel and entertaining (to a point), but it seemed it wasn't enough to advance the story or elicit buy-in. As a result, the pacing seemed slow, especially toward the end. The movie felt more informative than entertaining. It's easy to be critical whereas effort is needed to make constructive suggestions. With that said, it was difficult for me to empathize with the challenges and successes as portrayed by Lego characters. Emotions are more authentically portrayed with live action actors. Perhaps the story could have been told with more exaggeration. In other words, let the Legos do their thing; let them be extreme. As is, any demonstrated emotions and actions were greatly muted and therefore didn't touch me. This made the movie feel slow. As a product, I like Legos. However, I don't think they work portraying real people in a dramatic film. They have a limited acting range. Read more
