Great controller

PlayStation Access Controller Review: Inclusive Gaming Done Right The PlayStation Access Controller, formerly known as Project Leonardo, is Sony’s official adaptive controller designed to make gaming more accessible to players with disabilities. After spending time with it, it’s clear that this isn’t just a piece of hardware — it’s a thoughtful, groundbreaking step toward truly inclusive gaming. Customizable and Modular Design The first thing that stands out is the controller’s circular, modular layout. It’s not your typical controller — and that’s the point. The design allows players to configure it in ways that best suit their physical needs. Buttons are large, re-mappable, and spaced out around the device, making it easier for those with limited dexterity or range of motion. Swappable button caps come in various shapes and sizes to accommodate different movement styles — from light taps to full presses. You can rearrange these components and rotate the controller itself for left- or right-handed play. The flexibility here is a game-changer. Seamless Software Integration Through the PS5’s accessibility settings, the Access Controller allows players to remap every input with ease. You can save multiple control profiles and switch between them on the fly, making it perfect for switching between games or control schemes. It can even be paired with a second Access Controller or a DualSense to build a co-pilot setup — ideal for collaborative play between a gamer and a support person. High Compatibility and Expandability Sony smartly included four 3.5mm expansion ports to allow connection to third-party switches, pedals, and other accessibility devices. This means the Access Controller doesn’t force users into Sony-only accessories — instead, it enhances existing adaptive setups. It’s a nod to the work already being done in the accessibility space, and a signal that Sony is listening to the disabled gaming community. Build Quality and Comfort The Access Controller feels solid and premium in the hand. It’s not too heavy, and the button actuation is responsive but gentle — designed for comfort during extended sessions. It rests easily on a table, tray, or wheelchair armrest, and doesn’t require you to hold it like a traditional gamepad. Final Verdict The PlayStation Access Controller is a bold, beautifully executed leap forward in accessible gaming. It puts the power of customization in the hands of players who’ve long had to modify controllers on their own or rely on niche third-party devices. Now, Sony is offering an official, well-integrated solution that brings dignity, flexibility, and fun back into gaming for all. Rating: 5/5 – A landmark controller that redefines inclusion in gaming. Greatest innovation in controllers yet!!!

Eddie Desoto JrDecember 18, 2023

I am incomplete paraplegic and only have the use of my left arm not much dexterity in my wrist or fingers.... Much better than having to stare at the remote play app and stop some of my important game as I was not able to hold a button down and hit another button at the same time... This controller has allowed me to play a lot of games I haven't played in over a decade and modern renditions of the title as well... Very clean very adjustable modular for disabled or if you just want a customizable option to go with your other transmitters... Seems extremely durable feels very well and battery life is phenomenal (probably due to lack of haptic feedback dedicated touch panel or ability to install or have a second joystick that I know up so far) I have a game for 11 hours with it without charge and was still flashing on two bars. The ability to add for extra switches micro switches is a major advantage and I recommend getting the Logitech kit that comes with multiple switches for the price of sometimes one of them on other websites. Anyways highly recommended check it out for yourself!!! Read more

Lacking a bit while interesting

It needs it right joystick honestly I wouldn’t even pay $100 for one joystick and eight buttons. Anyways, looks like I’ll be getting a second damn access controller because there’s no other useful joystick on the market compatible with the device. It was easy to set up and program the remote: One remote is extremely useful for games, such as Rainbow Moon or Mordheim; While, a second remote Could be used for first person shooters. I hesitate with the word could because some first person shooters require you to press multiple buttons in sequence or simultaneously. what this means is that the stable foundation for both access remotes working simultaneously Is nonexistent since we connected via wire. You’ll have to have some fast handwork. I am pleased with the fact that I can play some games again easily since I’m missing my left thumb and part of my right thumb and all of my left fingers. I’m excited to see if I can play call of duty, ratchet and clank, And other action type games that typically require both thumbs and full sets of fingers. Good job PlayStation I’ll definitely be buying the second joystick in the form of a second access controller. If I ever get stuck, I’ll be sure to buy it and keep it with Rigged sales policies like this. Read more

I can play games again!

Ellie Frato-SweeneyJuly 6, 2025

I am disabled, I have a genetic connective tissue disorder and use a wheelchair. With my disability comes some muscle weakness and severe joint instability. It can be really hard to use normal video game controllers because my fingers partially dislocate from hitting buttons sometimes and my hands start spasming if I grip something for more than a couple seconds. So I was so excited to get these Access controllers. My favorite thing about them is how customizable they are. I was able to adjust each button shape to account for what would be best for my hands. I’m able to play for hours now instead of just a few minutes. Very grateful for these controllers. Now the one thing I dislike is that in order to get the full experience of a regular co troller, you need to buy two Access controllers. AKA I needed to buy two so that I could mimic a normal controller and have one joystick cover character direction and the other control the camera, as well as have control over all the buttons a normal controller would use. So that’s was annoying and expensive. But overall I’m just so pleased to be able to play! Read more
