This is a great way to learn the Pokemon Trading Card Game. Comes with three full decks, damage counters, a (comically oversized) coin, and a board for playing on. The board is very nice quality; it's not a thin plastic or paper mat, but an actual board game-like board. The board has a little 'what you can do on your turn' list on it for each player, which is great for learning. The instructions also feature a 'learn to play' section which guides you through several turns card-by-card, which again makes learning super easy. Finally, the decks are rated a 1 out of 3 on complexity, so the cards themselves do not feature any particularly difficult game mechanics. Difficulty of rules/cards seems appropriate for 6-7 year olds (at least the kind of 6-7 year olds that are interested in this type of game to begin with). I haven't played the pokemon card game for probably 20 years, so I have no input on whether the included cards are particularly good, but they are at least a full deck with a rare and a foil "V" pokemon each. I got it for $14 which seems like an amazing deal. Read more

The decks come preconstructed and the included booklets make it quite easy for even younger people to learn the game. It takes you step by step, turn by turn through your first match and slowly lets you take control over time so you don't get overwhelmed. I do have a few complaints though. I ordered three of these and a handful of the cards came with damage. It feels like these were printed with lower quality control compared to cards you would get in normal booster packs. Also, some of the cards were in the incorrect order which made using the booklets and learning harder since we had to re-order the cards on the fly. Other than the damage and card order, the cards are still good and have some stuff you could potentially take and place into other decks such as Boss's Orders, Shauna, Sonia, and Switch. It's a good deal and they've been on sale lately so the price to entry is low. Read more

Our 6 year old has been collecting cards for about a year so we figured it was time to learn how to use them. I felt overwhelmed about the process so I was excited to find this game. It eased us into the rules and layout and how to use some strategy. It was fun for kids and adults to play. I wish there was an intermediate or advance version of this so I could understand how to use it with all the cards (like how to apply resistance), not just the 3 decks it came with. Read more

Got this for my son for Christmas and he loves it!! He's been collecting cards for about a year now so I figured it's time to teach us both how to battle. They make it so easy to learn with the hardboard battle mat, 3 premade decks, coin, hit counters, instruction manual and more. Most importantly you start with a Pikachu electric deck and the other player with the cinderace fire deck. Each card in these decks are numbered so you start by putting them in order. Then just follow your individual manual book for that certain deck and it just walkes you threw how to play, with the manual already knowing what's going to happen next! It's awesome and super easy to learn! Then once you get it down you can switch to using the blue, Eevee darkness deck that's a bit more complicated and then you just get better and better and it all becomes very easy and a blast to play! If your kiddo is wanting to learn how to battle in Pokemon then I say this is the best way to go, hands down!! Read more
