I could feel the difference in the air cleanliness in my room within 24 hours. Plugged it in and ran it on high mode while I went and ran errands, when I came back I could sit in my room without immediately started to tear up and get congested from the allergens and the air smelled fresh. It has a low, high, and sleep setting for the fan speed so it can be practically silent, or sound like a white noise machine on the highest setting.
