This is an excellent lamp, and the price reflects the quality. I bought a similar model that cost half as much and returned it the same day. One of the first things I noticed is the thoughtful notch on the bottom of the stand. It prevents the lamp from rocking back and forth when placed on top of an upright piano, right where the hinge is. The buttons are responsive and work well. The “heart” feature, which lets you save your favorite setting, seemed a little gimmicky at first, but it’s actually useful considering how many settings the lamp offers. The build quality is solid. The lamp is larger than it looks in the images, and the angle of the light is perfect. Unlike gooseneck-style lamps, this one is easy to push back or pull forward between sessions. There’s also some kind of filter that blends the LEDs, creating a clean, even light. It lights up both the keyboard and the sheet music, which is a nice bonus. I’ve been playing for years, and honestly, I’m not sure why I waited so long to buy a proper lamp. Also, I’m not sure anyone else will care about this, but I was able to find the CE rating on the adapter, which is something that’s getting harder to find on Amazon these days. I don’t love the idea of a sketchy light fixture sitting on top of a nice, flammable wooden piano. I initially bought this lamp to use on top of an old upright piano that I’m playing in a local theatre production. This lamp is perfect because there are many brightness settings to choose from. The base of the lamp is very heavy, which allows me to safely extend the lamp neck forward to illuminate the area below the lamp. The wide lamp wonderfully lights the span of the entire keyboard. The adjustable shade can be set to throw more or less light, and is perfect in the theatre setting. I can set it so that people in the audience who are seated across the way facing the backside of the lamp are not distracted or blinded by the lamp light. My music book propped on the music rack is perfectly illuminated. This lamp works well on taller pianos. I’m guessing that it might work on spinets, but if not, it would work well on a studio upright or taller. After our theatre production closes, I plan to put this lamp on the high shelf of my computer cabinet/stand so that I can have adequate light while doing paperwork. Read more

The media could not be loaded. Love the solid base, does not fall over like one of my previous piano lamps (I’ve purchased 4 others.) Lights up 3 pages of music PLUS the keys. Pictures shown are my Spinet piano, so not as tall as my other Upright piano. Lamp sits a little low on the spinet, but I am still able to set my piano music/books beneath it. Overall: this is a good quality piano light. It is pricey. I recommend to buy it on a black Friday sale. This lamp has Good brightness & coverage on the music sheet and keys for a 76 key keyboard. ———————————————- Note: a google search says that the illumination engineering society recommends a minimum of 500 lux of light intensity on the music sheet and a minimum of 300 lux on the keyboard to prevent eye strain. They also recommend a max ratio of about 2 to 1 of light intensity between the music sheets and the keyboard to prevent eye stain. ————————————————— To get the most optimal coverage, I positioned the light so that it points directly down to the farthest side of the middle F key (opposite side of the piano player). This is the middle of my 76 key piano. The lamp LEDs are 18” to the farthest side of the F key. ————————————————— I used the Photone app to measure light intensity at different keys of a 76 key piano, in LUX units. Here are the empirical results: Note: I measured the light intensity at the highest light setting at the highest temperature color (bright white). -1800 lux at the top of the music sheet (17” from the light LEDs) -1500 lux at the middle of the music sheet (20” away) -1100 lux at the bottom of the music sheet (23” away) *the results above show that the light intensity surpasses the illumination engineering society’s recommendations. It is bright enough for two music sheets that are 8.5x11 on my music stand. ——————————————————- I measured: -950 lux at the farthest side of the middle F key (18” from the lamp LEDs) -540 lux at the nearest side of the middle F key -220 lux at the farthest left and right keyb on a 76 key keyboard. This is less than the 300 lux recommended by the illumination engineering society but 220 lux is still bright enough at the farthest edges of a 76 key keyboard for some individuals. *i would recommend this light for a 76 key piano. It has good light coverage.* -> I can not give a recommendation on an 88 key piano-however my empirical results show that light would be much dimmer at the farthest keys of an 88 key piano than on a 76 key piano. —————————————————- Light uniformity: this light has good to adequate light uniformity. The light intensity ratio between the music sheet vs the keyboard ranges from about 1:1 to as much as 9:1 (see results above). Overall: the light uniformity can change a lot from the top of the music sheet to the farthest left and right keys, but the lighting is not a dramatic change in light intensity when you see it in person (in my personal observation). —————————————-————- I like that you can pitch the light in the up and down position (see ad for degrees of tilt). For roll, the lamp allows slight rotation to the left and right sides of the fixture. There is no yaw adjustment-but you can just manually rotate the base. -i like the save setting and the ability to change color temperature -i love that the base is sturdy and does mot have a big footprint -i like that it has a long cord -i have been using this for 2 months. So far, it is flicker-free. —————————————————- Overall: i recommend this light for a 76 key piano. I can not give an opinion for its functionality on a 88 key piano. Read more
