When I first started out with a safety razor, it was Derby blades that I decided on due to their multi-coating. I've since moved on to sharper blades than Derby, but I thought that perhaps for my first foray into straight edge razor shaving that Derby would once again be an ideal starter blade. The kit comes with everything you need for up to 200 shaves, other than a shaving brush and shaving soap. So far, I'm only into my first crack at it and it clearly has a learning curve. Watched a few videos and picked up some good pointers, the biggest one being that on your first few shaves maybe just stick with the easy parts (cheeks) and finish off the rest with your regular razor. That way you can get used to holding and controlling the blade, with minimal risk. Probably should have worked off of a single day's growth, instead of 3 days growth, as I still managed to give myself a few nicks. I was hoping that my DE safety razor experience would do me more good than it seems to have. So, I can't say that I'm sold yet, but I'll give it a good run and see if it's my thing or not. I would absolutely recommend the set as a great way to dip your toes in on straight razors. Maybe you'll want to move on to one that need sharpening, stropping, and maintenance. But, that's a significant investment, which makes trying something like this first a really good idea. In fact, many stick with this kind of set up, where you get a shave or three from a blade, replace it, and move on. For me, time will tell. The packaging includes a set of instructions on how to open up the handle and set the blade in there. I found the print a bit hard to read, but eventually figured it out. The case is fairly basic, but it does the job. Tight fit out of the box, but being pleather, it's already stretching out and fitting better. Anyway, great gift for your OH who might be considering a straight razor, priced low enough to be a stocking stuffer. Read more

This is a good razor, not great. The good: - Comes with 100 refill blades - Blade loading and reloading is easy - Razor feels solid in your hands The bad: - Not heavy enough to be stable - Blade length is a bit too short - Case fit is too tight I will say that I was a bit apprehensive to order this. I've never used a straight-edge razor before. I watched many videos and practiced on a balloon before using it on my face. Even watching videos, there is a pretty steep learning curve to this blade. On first shave, I realized that my skin is not nearly as smooth as I thought. I found a few high spots and got nicked. This razor did provide a very close shave. I only shaved my cheeks and neck due to having a beard, so I don't know how it will work on my upper lip and chin. I don't yet have the confidence to use it on my head... sticking to the safety razor for that. I really think this razor should be heavier to feel perfectly stable in my hand. Read more

While I originally wanted a classic straight razor that I'd have to clean and sharpen. But.. those are expensive and my barber talked about how it's hard to keep those sanitized, and that's why barbers tend to use this kind of straight razor. I switched to a straight razor with replaceable blades years ago. This is my third - each one has taken a different type of blade. This one comes with 100 razor blades, which is enough to last a long time. You can't get a closer shave than a straight razor, but it takes some practice. You are, after all, holding a sharp steel blade against your neck. You'll probably cut yourself up a lot as you and your skin get used to it. It just takes practice. I rarely nick myself anymore. My other straight razors have been basic and metallic. I really like the look of this one, and it paid off. The look and feel is good. I really like the design and the solid black color. The blades on this are not as large as my regular straight razor, but that's just an adjustment due to what I'm used to. I love having the case for this. It's helpful to keep this safe with it's very sharp blade, throwing this in my travel bag inside it's slip case ensures me I'm not going to reach in and slice my finger open on a safety razor that's flipped open. But... don't take this on a plane. The TSA will freak out and you'll have to throw away the blade. Read more

This set comes with everything you need to get started with a straight razor. Very nicely balanced and feels good to hold in any direction. The razor is very sharp and it's great 100 are included as many do not include them. The instructions are very clear. Feels like very good quality that could last a lifetime. Thanks! Read more

This is my first straight edge razor after having used a double edge razor for the last 10 years or so. It's a good starter kit and is enough for me to learn on. I'll eventually get something a little better if and when I develop some decent technique. The razor has a feel of stamped sheet metal, rivets, and paint. It has a light weight to it. I had to bend it a little bit to get it to fold right but it seems to be okay. The paint is chipping in a couple places already. Putting the razor in the case was really tight the first time but it has loosened up as I use it more. I don't get the feeling that it will ever slip out of the case though. It's nice that it comes with a known brand of blade too and there are enough to last me a long time. The description of this razor uses the word "professional" in multiple places and I feel like that's a stretch. If I were really expecting this to be a professional razor, I'd give a it a low rating. But if I see it for what it is which is a decent start razor, I'd give it a higher rating so I'm a bit torn here. I'll give it 4 stars. If they were actually selling it as a starter kit, I'd probably give it 5 stars. Read more
