My vet recommended these for my dogs who are miniature Australian shepherds to clean their teeth and it works great and they love them. I did have to cut some of them in half because I have a little guy that’s about 18 pounds and so some of the bones are a bit too big for him Read more

Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Chewz are dental treats formulated to help reduce tartar buildup in dogs. Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons to help you decide if these treats are the right choice for your furry friend: Pros: Veterinary Recommended: These treats carry the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) seal, indicating they have been accepted as effective in reducing tartar buildup with proper use (feeding two treats daily). Long-Lasting Chew: The long-lasting chew texture can help keep your dog occupied and potentially scrape away plaque and tartar buildup as they chew. Dental Benefits: If effective, these chews could help promote better dental health for your dog, reducing the risk of dental disease. Variety of Sizes: Purina Pro Plan Dental Chewz come in different sizes to accommodate dogs of various breeds and sizes. Relatively Affordable: Compared to some veterinary-exclusive dental chews, these treats are a more affordable option. Cons: Unknown Ingredients: The specific ingredients list might be difficult to find. This can be a concern for dog owners with allergies or those who prefer more transparency about what their pet is ingesting. Mixed Reviews on Effectiveness: While some users report success with reducing tartar, others mention minimal improvement or their dog losing interest in the chews. Potential Digestive Issues: Some dogs might experience digestive upset, especially if not introduced gradually. Not a Substitute for Brushing: Dental chews should be used as a supplement to regular vet checkups and proper dental hygiene practices, like teeth brushing. Overall: Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Chewz offer a potentially effective and affordable way to support your dog's dental health, with the VOHC seal adding credibility. However, the unknown ingredients list, mixed effectiveness reviews, and potential for digestive issues are drawbacks to consider. Here are some additional things to consider before purchasing: Your Dog's Dental Needs: Talk to your veterinarian about your dog's specific dental health and if these treats are suitable for their needs. Your Dog's Preferences: Not all dogs enjoy the taste or texture of dental chews. Consider offering a small sample first to see if your dog likes them. Introduce Gradually: Start with a small piece and monitor your dog for any digestive issues. I hope this review helps you decide if Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Chewz are the right dental treat option for your dog! Read more

These dental chews were recommended by our vet for our puppy during her terrible teething period. Prior to 6/7 months old, these lasted her so long and were incredibly effective for her during teething. Once she was about 6.5 months old (she’s now 7 months), I noticed that they didn’t last long anymore. This is to be expected though as puppy teeth are replaced with the adult teeth and they are stronger chewers. However, I have noticed she’s becoming more of an aggressive chewer. Not all dogs are, so the duration of how long they will last depends on your dog. The size of each chew varied, but none were too small. Our puppy enjoyed the taste and continued to chew them after the flavor was gone. At the young puppy stage, it was more of a value for the money for me. But, since she loves these so much, to have as a treat every so often at this point, these are still a winner for me. I’d recommend based on the vet recommendation I received and the good experience I’ve had with them. Read more

These dental chews are a hit with my dog—she practically does backflips when I pull one out. They do a great job of keeping her teeth clean and her breath tolerable (which is no small feat). The only downside? They don’t last very long. My dog has them devoured faster than I can say “good dental hygiene.” For the price, I wish they’d keep her busy for a bit longer. Still, they’re high-quality and clearly tasty, so I’ll keep buying them—mostly because I like her excitement. Four stars for happy teeth and an even happier pup! Read more

The media could not be loaded. My ShihTzu / Cocker Spaniel Mix dog loves these. She chews on them for a long time, so one box lasts us quite awhile. Read more

DANGEROUS!! These treats are initially hard but become soft quickly. They Goldens were able to chew a small portion of the treat but then their saliva turned the treat into a rawhide type consistency. One of my Goldens tried to swallow a large piece and it got lodged in her throat. I was fortunate that I was in the same room and had forceps handy to dislodge this piece that caused an obstruction. EXPENSIVE: There are about 6-8 chews in one box. Directions state: feed your adult dog at least 2 chews a day! So, if there are 8 pieces in the box, this means that I would need to buy at least 2 boxes per week. I have gone back to Purina’s DentalLife which are chewable, less expensive and have done a good job keeping tartar at bay. Read more

I used to give my dogs big bully sticks for nightly chewing but after a trip to the oral surgeon for a root canal, I switched to these upon his suggestion. It was a seamless transition from bully sticks to these chews; my dogs go bananas for them. My dogs all have really good breath and even my little Maltese consistently impresses her vet with her oral hygiene. I don’t brush, I give them these chews after dinner every night. I do have to cut them into little strips for my Littles, however some of them are way too thick to cut with scissors so I give those to my big dudes. So these are probably best for aggressive chewers. They are very inconsistent in thickness and size, which works for our needs, but maybe keep it in mind if you’re buying for large breeds. Overall, I’m glad I found something that my dogs love and is VOHC approved. Health starts in the mouth with our best friends. Read more
