Low profile for smaller spaces
I had a love/hate relationship with my first water separating fuel filter. It was big. It was actually big enough to be overkill for my 16' center console boat. Changing the filter was a challenge because there was only 1/2" between the drain and the sole of my boat. The old filter body started leaking, and so I decided to try this R12T size. It's about half the size of what I had before, and was easy to mount below the holes of the previous filter. It also gives me 4" of space between the drain and the sole of my boat. My engine is a 90hp, so this filter will serve my needs without any issue. The filter replacements are easy to source, and with this one, I can fit a strap wrench around it easily to get the filter off and install a new one. What I like: - Its size. It's more important to me that a filter fits in the space I have than that it has filtering capacity for 1000 engine hours of operation. I replace filters every 2 years, and I have put 725 hours on my engine in the past 4 years, so capacity just isn't a concern. - The sight glass. When I get water in my tank, I want to have visual evidence of it so I can take action if necessary. - The drain. This filter has two drains. One allows me to drain out water. The other allows me to rinse out large particulates without removing the filter or sight glass. What would I change? - It took a bit of effort to get all of the plugs to seal correctly. I'd like for the filter to rely more on fit and finish and less on thread tape for this. Fuel leaks are dangerous and no fun. Read more
