Like most of you, I bought this sampler to be able to easily compare and contrast the dozen brands before purchasing a 100-pack of a brand. I have shaved with DE safety razors for about 7 years, and was using Feathers until I ran out recently. I was surprised that the price of a Feather 100-pack had almost doubled! So I needed to find a more reasonably priced brand. My criteria were simple: the blade had to be smooth and efficient on the first shave, nearly as good on the fifth shave as on the first, generally consistent from blade to blade, and a 100-pack had to be under $10. (This last criteria eliminated the Nacets and Permasharps.) My methodology was as follows: I went through one blade for each brand for two shaves. I repeated this process. This eliminated all brands that were not smooth and efficient right off of the bat, or ones that were not consistent for both the blades. I then used the remaining brands for five shaves, and repeated this three times. I shaved on consecutive days, or left a gap of a day, to have longer hair to cut. I used a point system for this phase - 1 point for a great shave, half a point for an “ok” shave, etc. Finally, I used a Tatara Muramasa adjustable razor, which is the finest razor I’ve used (vs. multiple Rocnel Sailors, Merkur, ATT, Timeless, etc). I have a very consistent shaving technique, and prefer a mild-to-medium shave. After first round I was able to eliminate the Asco, Astra Platinum, Shark Platinum, Derby Extra, Treet, and Lord razors. All of them presented a poor shave within the first two shaves of a single blade, or on the second blade. This left the Sharp, Shark Stainless, Astra Stainless, and Derby Premium. All of these are excellent razors, and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. However after two weeks with each blade, and a total of fifteen shaves, the Derby Premiums stood out. They were consistently smooth and efficient, from the first shave to the fifth. Derby has a great reputation, and rightly so. So there you have it. This is a great pack to do your own comparison, and an excellent value. Happy shaving! Read more

If you’re new to double razor wet shaving these are a must have. All things change the type of shave you will have, and enjoy. The pre-shave preparation, shave soup vs. shave cream, shave oil, and yes they type of razor blade takes a great roll in reducing irritation, and makes for a comfortable shave. The above razor blades are not expensive and allow you to try our different razor blades to see which one suits your style of shaving best. All work well, with quality materials, and hardness levels. Try them all, before you buy in bulk. Read more

Fun having different blades to try. All seem to work about the same. They all cut the hair off my face. Bought this pack a few years ago and still have a lot left to use. Would probably buy these again for the novelty of them. Read more

I got this pack when I started with DE shaving. I use a Viking chieftain 5 BC razor, Lather and wood soap and pre-shave oil. I used each blade for two sessions before getting new blade. Typical session was 2-3 passes and generally 2 days between shaving. Here are my personal experiences with each blade. Your results may vary. Shark Super After 3 passes, started pulling more. Took 3 passes to get close shave. Second blade, on second shave had some neck irritation and a few nicks. Derby extra Very close shave on face. Lots of nicks on neck. Not much irritation. Astra super stainless Good cutting, usually took two passes. No nicks or irritation. Lord platinum Nick on neck but otherwise smooth shave fewer passes to get a good cut. Used three times for shaves, per blade, and still good. Voskhod Very mild razor. Took several passes to get a good shave. Minor irritation on neck. Derby premium Rough shave and needed two passes. No nicks or irritation. Third shave had irritation. Second blade caused nicks. Asco Decent cut but needed several passes. Very little irritation or nicking. Rapira Not super smooth but no nicks or irritation. Not an overly aggressive cut. Shark Platinum Very smooth, several passes to shave close. Read more

Great opportunity to use/try different blades for comparing for "bread lame " utility. There are truly different characteristics observed between the blades. This assortment allowed my chef/wife to experiment and find the specific blade most suited to each dough and project. Read more

There was a lot of trial and error here but I found my fit after switching to wet shaving with double edge blades. This sampler represents a very broad spectrum: mild to aggressive shaves, supremely sharp to just adequate sharp blades, silky smooth to Jack The Ripper experiences. I shaved with each of the blades and made notes on the experiences to narrow down my pick. Then I bought bulk of the blades that worked best for me here on Amazon. This is such a subjective topic but I like the Astra Platinum blades in the green and white tucks. I have medium to coarse hair but fairly sensitive skin. I focus on a "good complexion" outcome not a "scraped raw" effect. I use Proraso shave foam in the white tube, a Yintal shaving handle and a synthetic badger hair style shaving brush. I finish off with an alum bar and a cold water rinse to close my pores. I only use each blade for two days/two shaves, flipping in between. I could probably get four shaves but I don't want to risk the irritation. Works out to 4-5 cents per shave. There is a lot of buzz online about old blades and new blades, counterfeits and genuine articles. I do not think this sampler contains any counterfeits, maybe just some older styles of blades. I really hope this helps you make a smart decision! Thank you! Read more
