I ordered this USB video capture device to digitize some old VHS home movies, and it turned out to be a simple and practical solution. The device connects to a computer via USB and uses standard RCA inputs from a VCR or camcorder, so setup was straightforward. Once connected, my computer recognized it right away with capture software, and I was able to start recording the video feed. The quality is about what you’d expect from VHS—don’t expect miracles—but the transfer was stable and the audio stayed in sync. The biggest advantage is being able to preserve old tapes in a digital format before they degrade further. A couple things to keep in mind: transfers happen in real time, and you’ll need compatible capture software on your computer. That said, the hardware itself did exactly what it’s supposed to do. Overall, this is a useful little device if you’re looking for an affordable way to archive old VHS tapes or analog camcorder footage to your computer. Read more
I needed to convert about ten VHS tapes for someone and this worked perfect. It connects from the VHS player to your laptop which in my case was a Macbook. You need some kind of capture software on your computer, there are a number of free programs available. Then press play on your VHS player and the image plays on your computer screen and is captured by the software. The part that took the most time for me was figuring out the initial setup and settings of the software. Once I had that figured out it was easy. The tapes play and are captured in real time so it will take as long as the recording you are digitizing. For the price and quality this device is hard to beat. Highly recommended! Read more
I followed the instructions to use OBS and had no issues transferring VHS tapes to my PC. Unfortunately, my VHS player is ancient now and it seems to have issues ejecting and playing videos now. I can hear a piece of something rattling around inside of my player, but this has nothing to do with this converter. It's unfortunate how much VHS players cost now. I wanted to transfer all of my VHS tapes like home records hoarding, thanks and whatnot over to digital, but my VHS player gave out on me. I was actually very surprised at the quality. After converting my tapes from analog to digital using this, they looked much clear and cleaner with no noise. Personally, I think, if you're looking to transfer your tapes over to digital, then look no further than this product. Read more
Make a note that if you intend to use S-video for transferring visual data from a VCR or camcorder, this kit does not include an S-video cable (just an outlet), so order one of those ahead of time or with the kit. S-video is superior to RCA. You'll still use the audio cable included in the kit. This transfer/capture device works fairly well for such a simple, cheap kit. If, like me, you tend to turn your laptop camera off, remember to turn it back on before trying to use this device. It doesn't use the laptop's built-in camera, of course, but if the camera is disabled it won't allow you to utilize the included USB camera transfer device, either. After that, it's pretty simple plug-and-play, even with Win11. Don't expect miracles - you are not going to get super high resolution. But you do get a nice quality video and audio for cheap. DO NOT BUY. Does not work with MacBook does not even show up when plugged into my computer. Tried it on a PC as well but can not download the required software through the link they provide as it is unsafe and not secure, it won't even give me an option to bypass it which renders this device USELESS. SAVE YOUR TIME, MONEY AND AGGRAVATION. Read more
