The sharpener is very good. I replaced some ceramic rods that were worn out. You need to use the correct pressure with this tool. When using a new knife, to the tool, a firmer touch is needed to set the edge. You can actually see the blades removing metal. I do my sharpening over a paper towel to make clean up easy. Once the edge matches the degree of the unit you purchased, all you need is a very light pressure to redefine the edge. The tool combines the best of most sharpeners into one unit. You don't need a coarse and fine side, just one slot where the user is in control. I purchased the tactical unit and like it. If I get knives with another angle, I am going to try the home/kitchen version. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. A really nice feature is the slot has very little overhang on the unit and when you get to the tip, it pulls through without hitting the tool itself, very nice. 40* Work Knife edge tool is NOT Lefty Friendly...will make a good edge though,but I ended up flipping the tool upside down ,and also the knife, edge up, and pulling towards me to get a smooth stroke...not the safest method with this...it does do a good job though. Took a few passes, and a cleaning out of the tool before it 're-profiled' the edge, probably 30+ passes. It holds the 40* workman's edge well, and I keep it in my truck. How about making a Left handed Version for the other 12% of people in the world...? Read more
