These are much better than waterpik's pick-pocket tips currently, since the waterpick tips are now so soft that they are difficult to insert under the gum and impossible to keep there as you move it along. These are just the right stiffness (but not too hard so you could damage your gums), so that the water jet actually goes into and cleanses the pocket between the teeth and gums. The $ savings is secondary to the better function, but an additional bonus. They do click into the handle a bit differently--a steady, firm pressure is needed until it seats, since the groove (which needs to grab into the handle) is thinner than those on the waterpik tips.
