I have 2 big metal drinking mugs. They both came with plastic straws and every sip would taste like plastic. Also one of my plastic straws was caked with mold! It was disgusting! The straws cleaner was slightly too small around so it wasn't enough to scrub it clean and plastic grows mold easily. I got these tall metal straws and I'm very pleased with the set. Purchased these straws and silicone tops to fit in a Simple Modern 40 oz water bottle. There is a slight gap at the top, however not too terrible in comparison to the hole for the Simple Modern 40 oz bottle. This slight gap allows for a small amount of water to escape when the bottle is accidentally knocked over. I needed an option where I could feel as if I was drinking my water safely without the fear of using a stainless steel straw. Especially since, as a mom, both of my younger kids like to drink out of my water bottles. Thickness of straw is fine, again, slightly smaller than the Simple Modern plastic straw. During initial purchase I was under the impression that the silicone tip was attached to the steel straw. They come separate and you need to put them together (see image). Once the silicone tip is on the stainless steel straw, it is a bit difficult to remove for cleaning purposes, however I place my straws in the dishwasher and have had no issues thus far. Silicone tip is soft and does not clamp shut during drinking. I do wish there was an option for just one color, as in just all grey, or all green, etc. I have not used other colors as they do not match my current water bottle colors. As mentioned earlier with drops and spills, the silicone tip is durable in the sense that there are no scratches or wear and tear from trying to remove it for cleaning. Read more

Yes, they're stainless steel straws that are long enough to fit a 40 oz. tumbler. They work as you would expect. The only problem is that I got only straight straws with only curved silicone tips. I had to cut the tips off to work on the straws. No big deal, but not as described. Read more
