“Premium” culinary matcha

Generally, if the region a matcha is grown in, and the cultivars used in it are mentioned, the quality is better! This does both! And if the color is a bright green instead of dull and chalky or yellowish, chances are the quality will follow. This is a bright ish green, but not as deep a green as ceremonial, showing some lower, older leaves, instead of all tips, are used. This is much cheaper than most ceremonial matcha, but slightly more expensive or the same per ounce for the most promoted culinary matchas. This matcha is definitely good enough to be used as an “everyday,” unadulterated, water only added, matcha. Slight not bad bitter notes. Grassy and sweet flavors. Mixes wellish, not as well as more expensive stone ground matcha. I’d say this is mostly first harvest, with perhaps some tips of second harvest. Ceremonial is typically all tips of first harvest, and painstakingly stone ground. (In Japan these classifications are not used. In olden days msg was added to nonorganic matches to enhance flavor.) Rishi does sell a ceremonial grade matcha in a tin I am looking forward to try! It is 50% more expensive than this, but still cheap for actual ceremonial grade, but both Rishi and Amazon appear to be out of it, but one hopes, will soon restock with the spring harvest! That said, never drink any matcha on an empty stomach. Savory or sweet food is always served before matcha in formal Japanese tea ceremonies, such as those taught in the Urasenke tradition. This is because full strength matcha, even of excellent quality, can turn your stomach, without anything in it. This matcha comes in a Mylar foil pouch in a can. Matcha degrades from exposure to air and humidity, so squeeze all the air out and tightly wrap with rubber band to keep it out, Keep refrigerated before first use, and when not using. In summer swoop it up as soon as possible after delivery and refrigerate, because heat degrades matcha too! Read more

Smooth, Vibrant, and Worth Every Sip 🍵

This matcha is a solid 10/10. It’s high-quality, with a rich, vibrant green color, fresh aroma, and smooth taste that gives a clean, energizing buzz — without the crash you get from coffee. It’s also reasonably priced, which makes it an even better find. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic, premium matcha. Read more

Good quality for the price

Good quality for a rather inexpensive matcha. Gets nice and frothy when made with water and oat milk. The taste is a little one-dimensional compared to more expensive matcha, but if you add flavoring or sweeteners, I don't think you would notice. Really lovely green color with a light flavor (not too strong or vegetal). Definitely measure and sift the tea before adding water/milk and use the correct temperature liquids or it will be bitter. Would buy again! Read more

Good starter matcha!! Surprisingly super good for price!!

Surprisingly good, I think this would be a great “starter” matcha for people! The flavor is good and a little more nutty than earthy :) I got it for when I don’t want to use my nicer matcha trying recipes but I actually enjoy it so much!! Pairs super well with warm flavors too like brown sugar. Read more

Everyday Matcha!

I have tried a few ceremonial grades and lesser grade matchas but this one is really good. The color is bright and it froths nicely. The price is right too(I can get it at my grocery store for less) and the taste is yummy! I make mine with honey, vanilla, milk and a little cream. I enjoy this matcha as a relaxing treat that helps me focus and chill. This is my "Everyday Matcha" Read more

Very nice - well done growers

This is a wonderful matcha. It has a bright color and when you open it you can really smell how fresh it is. While the tin it comes in is small, there is enough matcha present for about a dozen drinks. I have found that of you use 1 tsp, whisked into a foam with about 2 oz of 175F water, then pour it into a cup and top with milk, it makes a very light and refreshing matcha latte. If you aren't a huge fan of the vegetal flavor of ceremonial matcha, then this is a great alternative. It also works very well as a cake topper if you mix 0.5 tsp matcha with 0.5 tsp powdered sugar and top a vanilla pound cake. If you make sure to keep the matcha in the bag it comes in and simply fold it down to store it into the tin it also lasts quite a while without loosing flavor or oxidizing (turning brown) even if you don't use it everyday.
