Delightfully easy to pair. I like that the power switch is a slide so it doesn't accidentally turn on. I love the feel of a mechanical keyboard and this keyboard has satisfying key presses. The actuation and travel is ideal. The noise is lovely. I bought it to write longer notes into my phone and it functions flawlessly. My phone is fairly large and doesn't fit many holders but it sits fine in the holder here. Read more

I bought this because I wanted a mechanical keyboard that was easily transportable with my laptop. The keyboard folds in half, which works pretty well. Folded it's like a small umbrella and fits in my backpack easily. Unfolded it feels solid, although the keyboard can't be "locked" into an unfolded position, so if you pick it up or put on an uneven surface it may fold a bit on its own. Placed on a flat surface it feels like any other smaller mechanical keyboard. The keys feel good. The brown switch keys make noticeable sounds, as expected. About as much sound as any other brown switch keyboards. It's not a silent keyboard. I can't speak for the red keys. Typing on the keyboard feels good and solid, but the keyboard lays pretty flat. Typing on a flat mechanical keyboard took a little getting used to at first as outside of laptop keyboards I am used to keyboards with at least some lift. It would be nice if it had feet that could be flipped up to give more of a lift and angle to the keyboard. The keyboard comes with a USB cable and can be used wired or over Bluetooth The arms to hold a phone or tablet are fine, but I don't really use them. The space on the arms they give you to put a phone or tablet don't fit my phone with a case on, so it's not really usable for me. When not deployed the arms dock flush to the back of the keyboard, so they don't get in the way if you don't want to use them. There are a few things I think can be improved upon with this keyboard, but overall I am pretty satisfied with it so far. It's unique in that it folds to make it easier to pack than most keyboard and it doesn't sacrifice quality, so if that's something that you are looking for then this is worth considering. Read more

I was looking for a cheap-ish mechanical keyboard that I can carry around since I don't have a set desk at work and I can't work with membrane keyboards anymore. I expected somewhat flimsy cheap quality that would be good enough. I was honestly shocked how high quality this feels, how pleasant typing is and sturdy and solid this feels. When folded open there's no difference to non-folding keybaord. In fact it seems comparable to much more expensive keyboards I have (keychron, nuphy) and better than the log pop keyes I have. It's heavy-ish which I didn't expect but I take that over flimsy. 100% recommend. Read more

Royal Kludge makes good keyboards - this isn't one of them. This one is just "okay" at best. The matte-plastic trim and aluminum plate certainly look and feel nice. Like the carry-pouch, it visually looks high-end at first glance. Closer inspection reveals a far less rugged and capable design though. The bottom feels quite durable, which is a contrasting emotion from how it feels when folded up with all the delicate keys exposed while traveling. Not to mention the ribbon-cable connecting the two halves exposes itself when folded. Unlike most folding keyboards, this one becomes more prone to damage during travel than while typing, which is incredibly stupid. Like others have no doubt mentioned, this keyboard does not have a lock to keep itself open, so if you lift the keyboard from only one-half then the other half will fall and limply hang while you move the keyboard around. Even without a locking mechanism, some stiffer joints would've been a nice touch. I bought this to replace one of those foldable-keyboards that keep falling back in to themselves while typing on my lap without a desk. Unlike those cheaper folding-keyboards, this will at least keep its shape with the added benefit of being a proper mechanical keyboard instead of membrane - but I wonder if my travel environment makes that a moot point if I need a protective pouch or case to carry this around when folded while others at least resist damage to their keycaps when folded. The provided pouch might defend against dust, but not much else. It's very luxurious felt fabric that does nothing to protect your keycaps from scratches, fall-damage or moisture. A hard-case is really better suited to protecting a keyboard like this - and if that's what is needed than I may as well just start carrying a normal keyboard around in a hard case. One feature I really like on my other Royal Kludge keyboards is a backlight mode that distinguishes being idle keys and actively pressed keys. Frankly, I don't know why that is such an uncommon backlighting mode to have as it's the most sensible backlight mode, in my opinion. Having all the keys dimly backlit when idle so you can find them in the dark then brightly lit when pressed is such a natural interaction - which is a backlight mode available on some RK keebs . . . just not this one. In fact, the backlighting "modes" here became even more disappointing after I realized the third of "three backlight modes" is "off" - that should not count as a backlight mode. This keyboard only has two backlight modes, either ON or BREATHING. THERE IS NO THIRD BACKLIGHT MODE and I'd argue it's false advertising if I cared any more about it. - but I'm moving on. The switches can't be replaced or re-lubed easily. Shame that, because they feel like they needed more lube when I began typing on it and I'd rather experiment with other low-profile switches than the ones provided if I could. Short-axis keycaps could probably replace the ones provided, otherwise I don't see the purpose of including a keycap remover when the open-plate is accessible and you can clean the keyboard just fine with an air-duster. I'm quite disappointed in this keyboard and thinking of returning it. I'm not really sure who this keyboard was designed for and I'm in disbelief of anyone who really says this is ideal for their situation; there are definitely better options out there no matter your reasoning behind grabbing this particular keyboard. I'm giving two-stars instead of one because, design flaws aside, Royal Kludge makes mechanical keyboards that are nice to type on and this one isn't an exception in that regard - it's just not as nice as typing on a non-folding keyboard from Royal Kludge that I could put in a travel case and better rely on and customize than this one. This one is just a flop... literally (as I lift the keyboard and watch half of it dangle) - I can't justify keeping this around for how much it costs, let alone justify carrying this around with me for work when it feels so delicate and exposed.
