I'll try to be brief in and get right to the point. I know I don't read long winded reviews myself :D I've played games with many mice, including Logitech, Razer, and including one I believe is a defunct brand - RATT or something like that. Basically I love gadgets but I do care about their quality and functionality. What intrigued me about the Nyth is the configurable buttons. I've tried the Razer Naga Hex and found the circular buttons practically unusable for me. the far back buttons were practically impossible to use. Also the fact that the configuration of the buttons was unchangeable caused problems in that the way that I hold my mouse, my thumb was hitting two of the buttons at times so I had to disable them. With the Nyth, you can configure the buttons for your best fit and style of gaming. Up to 12 buttons are possible, and although this is overkill for me, a standard 3 or so button mouse was a bit lacking so I needed something in between. My configuration is weird but also shows just how customizeable this mouse is. the bottom row has a blank, a flat piece that renders those button positions disabled because again, those buttons would be hit all the time the way I use my mouse. I also have the front middle side button removed, becuase unfortunately Nyth did not have a blank the size to fit in the hole and I needed that button disabled too. essentially I have 3 side buttons I use all the time with fallout 4 right now. I could probably use a configuration of up to 6 in those positions but at this point 3 side buttons is enough. This is just my preference and I only laid it out to exemplify just how configurable it is. The top tilt button for me is a boon for my gaming. I have it for dpi switch up or down. a quick flick of the button left or right sets the dpi up and down instantly and for this purpose it is extremely useful. The mouse feels pretty good, if very slightly too large for my hand, I can use it just fine and since my hands are smaller than average I imagine it is a perfect fit for average or larger hands. Also configureable is the right side where you can replace the side with a larger, wider grip. of course I do not use it, as it makes the mouse very wide but it is there for those that would find that useful. snaps on with magnets very quickly and easily. The software is great and although I haven't used it fully with my roccat ryos keyboard, there is a ton of functionality in it and it is laid out well. The UI is understandable and user friendly. Every button is configurable. Of course it has game profiles and such but I have no opinion as I don't use those really. The software also can temporarily turn off your buttons so that you can reconfigure the physical buttons on the side without your mouse going all over the place on the computer. All in all, a very nice mouse and I'm very pleased with Roccat products I've used so far. Highly recommended! Read more

Background: FPS, RTS and MMO gamer. Mainly use Logitech mice, but have used Razer and Steel Series in the past. My main criteria for a gaming mouse is to have at least 4 thumb buttons, and a tilt wheel. First Impressions of the Nyth are very good. The design, build and weight feel solid and of high quality. The size and shape fit my medium-sized hand well. My wife thought it was a bit large till I swapped in the narrower ‘claw’ sideplate, which I also prefer. I wish the sideplate had slightly more negative contour along the horizontal line and/or was a little more textured – like my Logitech mice. I’m not a ‘lifter’ but I do like to feel like I have a solid grip on my mouse. The magnetic sideplate attachment is a surprising solid, clever, design that I would like to see expanded upon; maybe with additional or custom sideplates. I’ve ‘hot swapped’ the sideplates in seconds for different games – absolutely love it. The buttons…where do I start. In the past 7+ years, I’ve wanted a minimum of 4 thumb buttons for my style of play, but the right number – with the right placement – was hard to find. I tried the original Razer Naga and Logitech G600 but found the 12 thumb buttons too small and close packed to use effectively; my thumb is fat. I was very happy with the six button Razer Naga Hex, but it didn’t have a tilt wheel (also important to me) so it became my wife’s gaming mouse. I’ve been happy with nearly all my Logitech mice with 3-4 thumb buttons, but I needed a new mouse and was ready for something different. Not surprising, the 12 button config on the Nyth was a bit tight for me, though they are easier to use than either the original Naga or G600. Changing the 12 singles for 6 double buttons was a great improvement, but I really hit gold when I removed some of the center buttons, and kept 3x singles in the first column, and a single at the upper & lower spots in the last column. It gives me a solid deadspace for my thumb and helps me grip the mouse with no accidental button presses. I will experiment with changing the two rear buttons to doubles this weekend, but regardless, I’ve already found a winning combination that gives me 5 easy to use buttons with perfect placement. I’ve looked at the 3D printable buttons and I’m seriously considering ordering a set in a different shape & color. This is an outstanding idea Roccat – keep the creative ideas flowing. How about the ability to 3D print an outer shell in different textures or colors (I’m thinking red dragon scale…), or 3D printable hot-swap sideplates for different grip styles. My only disappointment with the Nyth is that it has the tilt dorsal fin instead of a tilt mouse wheel. I use the tilt wheel for strafing and getting use to the dorsal fin is a challenge that is compounded when I switch between different computers and go back to tilt wheel. Does Logitech have a patent on tilt wheels??? Anyway, this issue isn’t enough to cause me to stop recommending it. If Roccat reads this review: Put a tilt wheel to the NextGen Nyth and you will hit a grandslam. I would highly recommend this mouse. 2/10/16 Update: Loving the Dorsal Fin setup!! Read more
