My BF is a diabetic & eating sugary ice cream isn’t an option for us. I was gifted this. I keep tray in freezer upside down all the time. When need dessert, mix yogurt & berries on tray. Put it in the freezer and the next day the cold plate was ready for ice cream. The cold metal surface gets cold enough that you should take care not to touch it with bare skin; but everywhere that isn't metal is very easy to handle with your hands. It feels very safe to use, I would be very comfortable allowing someone younger to have some fun rolling up ice cream with supervision. Super fun to use, the rolling tools are great. The molds are novel, but I don't see much use for them. A cold plate is also great for any cold/fresh food like sushi. However, take care to put something to insulate the fish from direct cold plate contact or it will probably freeze a bit. Overall really great product. The cold lasts a long time and is fun to use for ice cream. Gets extremely cold but is still easy to handle. Good shape for naturally guiding your ice cream into rolls as well. Read more

If you've got enough room in your freezer to store this thing perfectly level (upside down) for a few hours, you can get pretty good rolled ice cream at home. The next step up is probably a $600-3000 antigriddle, so $27 ain't bad. There's a learning curve, but it isn't as steep as everyone makes it out to be. I think the biggest problem, as several other reviewers can attest to, is the flimsy spatulas that come with this kit. I wish I could find sturdier ones on Amazon without just buying another kit, I'm not sure how safe it is to use any of the metal options on this surface. That said, it's a very fun toy, and with some trial and error, the rolled ice cream is delicious and fun. There's better recipes online to play with, and you can get good results by pre-chilling your mixture in the fridge before use. Read more
