I always read a product’s negative reviews to avoid the disappointment and aggravation that come with purchasing an inferior product online. I would like to correct the impression some reviewers left about the fragility of Rolf glasses although I admit those reviews did give me pause. I bought various sets from this line at least ten years ago and have never had a problem with them breaking or even chipping unless accidentally knocked off a counter or dropped on the floor, of course. I’ve been wanting to find more exactly like mine but figured they had been discontinued since I’ve had mine so long. On a whim I typed in “etched palm tree glasses” and was ecstatic when I found exact matches. Still, the negative reviews bothered me: I thought perhaps Rolf had cheapened their products as so many other companies have done, so I researched the company, made calls, and compared every detail of the design to mine, including the advertised thick base for stability (obviously, this description does apply to the wine glasses). I took a chance and ordered two sets. The glasses arrived the very next day, packaged meticulously, each glass in its own separate small box with plenty of safety material between to prevent damage. Moreover, the glasses are identical in quality and sturdiness to the sets I’ve had for years. I use the high ball and old fashioned glasses for everyday glassware, so they go through the dishwasher, get bumped by cats and dogs, and, when used by my nine-year-old grandson and his neighborhood friends, suffer the expected bumps and spills, even getting completely knocked over, and they have held up remarkably well. As stated above, the only time any has broken happened after getting knocked off a table or countertop onto the hard floor (they survive falls onto the carpet nicely). I have never had any of my Rolf glasses, including wine glasses, chip. Because of its inferior design, my newish dishwasher tends to be brutal on cups and dishes, regularly causing chips and cracks on my stoneware. I mention this because none of my Rolf glasses has ever been damaged in my dishwasher from hell. That speaks volumes. In the past I have bought drinking glasses and ended up returning them even though I loved the design because I knew the fragile glass would break easily. Rolf glassware is definitely not in that category, so in spite of the few negative posted online comments—and the fact that any glassware can break—be assured this company continues to make durable, sturdy product. Quality glasses. The etching is beautiful and they have a nice weight to them. Have been using them for weeks & putting them through the dishwasher with no issues. They must’ve increased the thickness in recent years because we are rough on our glassware! Guests love them and so do we! Read more

Very high quality glasses and the palm tree etching is beautiful. Glass is thick and sturdy and holds a good sized cocktail. Only issue would be the high price but you do get what you pay for. Read more
