First off, let's identify what this is for: maintaining an edge on a kitchen type knife. It is not for taking an edge from dull an worn out to sharp, the stone is too fine for that. For what it is intended to do, it works well and looks good doing it. You have the ability to care for blades that have a 15 or 20 degree edges. There is a limit to the size of the blade you can (easily) sharpen, it is 1 1/32nd to about 2 1/16th width of blade; most kitchen knives fall in this range. if you're careful, you may be able to do smaller blades due to how strong the magnets are on the base. For a larger blade, you may be able to place a board under the board to raise it up. If you want a step up from the "V" type of sharpeners, this is a good option. I typically sharpen my kitchen knives every 2-3 uses, depending what and how much I'm slicing or cutting. This regular servicing of my knife's edge makes it easy to use and resharpen; don't wait until they are dull, that makes restoring the edge much more difficult. This set makes it easy to repeatedly service an edge with consistent results. Read more
