I was a little skeptical about spending this much on a garbage can, but it has far exceeded my expectations! I've never received a compliment from other house guests on a garbage can. I've recommended it to others, especially if you have dogs that insist on helping themselves to yesterday's leftovers. Read more

This trashcan was a bit bigger and heavier than I expected. My rough measurements are 14” wide, 21” long (including foot pedal) and about 29” tall. The dimensions on the site are wrong and you can see this trashcan is not square. And per the Amazon weight listed for shipping it weighs 15.6 pounds. All of that is this trashcan, not packing material. The ones that I have bought in the past weighed half that and were not very durable. So this is a good sized solid trash can But, one thing it offers is that the bag is not hanging outside the can and looks very neat for this. There is an inside can sleeve that you can pull out and wrap the can liner around. This is clearly a commercial product for use in offices or hospitals, but for the home, it makes a more durable version of a trashcan, if it is not too big for you. I use the tall kitchen style bags (13 gallon) in it, that tie on the top. I’m not sure if the ones that have the cinching tie on the top might fit between the liner and the exterior of the can. The lid is unique that there is two opening tops, not just one big one so seems to open easier. You don’t have this big cantilevered cover hanging on the mechanism. I’ve only used it one month so it fits the bill. I will update this over time, if there are issues. Also cool, was the flipping up lid is low enough that it stays under a standard counter top. Well designed. Now the big question is, whether or not the price to durability is worth it to you. This can costs 5X what other cans do. UPDATE: I noted my daughter had to keep her trashcan in her kitchen cabinet, as with 3 little kids and an 85 pound Labrador that is only to happy to empty a trash can, the one she had was not nearly durable enough. I gave her this one. She keeps it out in the open in her kitchen where it is very convenient to her. It's stability and integrated covers have made it survive significant use in her house hold. This is a major achievement, so with all those Mom's with kids and dogs, this might fit the bill. The kids also get a kick out of the way it opens, so they actually use it. Read more

I wanted so much to like this item and use it in my kitchen; however, I wound up putting it in my basement. While I like the step on pedal to open the container, in the kitchen, this is not always a useful feature for me. While I like the hands off aspect, I also find that there are times when I just want to lift the lid and leave it open so that I can put messy garbage in the container. Maybe I have just not figured out how to keep the lid open yet but this aspect is a big drawback for me. Also, this container is very heavy and while I think that bodes well for durability, I find it difficult to maneuver. I also find the inner waste basket an additional item that I find an annoyance. I have to keep lifting that inner plastic container up (and it is heavy as well) or better yet taking it out of the container in order to secure my trash bag. I really struggle with this whole process. I just want to be able to put the trash bag into the container and have it fit without a lot of maneuvering. The bottom line, I went back to using my heavy duty SimpleHuman trash can. The SimpleHuman trash can was cheaper and much easier to use and while the SImpleHuman has a pedal, I can also lift the lid by hand (this Rubbermaid I cannot) and I can set it to keep open for messy trash. This Rubbermaid trash container just did not work for me and maybe it is because it is too industrial in design rather than for home use. Read more

Despite the mostly plastic construction, this is a heavy and sturdy trash can. The description says commercial grade and that may be true for a light-duty environment (like an office kitchen). The step-open lid works quickly and reliably, unlike the lids on most home-grade trash cans. This Rubbermaid does have an internal liner to hold your trash or to hold an trash bag. A 13-gallon trash bag will fit, though it may not reach the bottom of this trash can (maybe not a problem for home trash). We also have a Simple Human trash can and this Rubbermaid is much better quality. On the other hand, the Rubbermaid is much more expensive, so much more expensive that I'm knocking off one star because of the price. Read more

Well worth the $. Bought over 5 years ago and it's still in great shape despite young kids and a dog. The beige plastic is looks nice in the kitchen and is easy to clean. Waaaay better than the stupid stainless steel stuff that shows every finger print. Would definitely buy again (if I ever needed to.) Read more
