If you love camping, hiking, or cold-weather adventures with your dog, this is hands-down one of the best investment pieces of gear you can make. From the very first night out, it was clear this poncho was designed for real comfort. My dog tends to get chilly as soon as the sun goes down, even with a small dog blanket. But the Palisades Poncho kept him cozy and warm when temps dipped into the 30s. The insulated panels trap warmth effectively without weighing him down. Ruffwear’s craftsmanship really shows here. The outer shell feels rugged and water-resistant, like it could handle overnight dew, light rain, or windy conditions without complaint. Inside, the insulation is plush but not bulky, and the stitching is reinforced in all the high-stress areas. I could tell this isn’t some flimsy accessory — it’s a serious piece of outdoor gear. The poncho is thoughtfully designed. The way it drapes over your dog gives excellent coverage, and the adjustable components help customize the fit without restricting movement. My dog didn’t try to shake it off, which is a huge plus. He actually seemed to relax into it! It also packs down really small and slips into its own stash pocket, which made backpacking with limited space way easier than lugging a bulky dog blanket. Putting it on and taking it off is simple and quick, even when your dog is excited or in an unfamiliar outdoor setting. Once secured, it stayed in place through play, short walks, and rest. Cleaning was straightforward too — just a wipe down and a quick air dry after muddy, dewy mornings. While I bought it for camping, this has become part of our cold-weather routine at home as well. If we’re heading out for chilly evening strolls, this poncho makes the experience noticeably more comfortable for my dog. Nothing is perfect — if your dog is extremely picky about clothing, there’s a small adjustment period, especiallythe leg straps. But mine got used to it within minutes. The Ruffwear Palisades Dog Sleep Poncho is a premium product that truly delivers on its promise. It’s warm, well-built, packable, and genuinely makes outdoor adventures more enjoyable for both my dog and me. For anyone who camps, hikes, or spends time outside in cooler weather with their pup, this is an amazing piece of gear that’s worth every cent. Read more

We ordered a size small for our 32#mixed breed cattle dog that has a long torso (20" from shoulder), long slender legs (18" to shoulder) but who is a lean mean running machine. It is hard to get things that fit her because she is long, tall and thin. but this fits beautifully. It even covers her VERY long tail. (see side photo). She typically does not like having things on her (fights harness, dislikes raincoat) but this was a different story. I put it on her and she kept it on for about half an hour while the woodstove was warming up. Maybe it reminds her of sleeping under a blanket. As to item: very easy to put on/take off. There are loops to keep it (loosely) over you dog's hind legs. There are no loops for front legs. Keeping front of poncho in place relies on cinching a little toggle adjuster at the neck which is stored under a flap and not immediately apparent. Once that is snugged the coat will not flop side to side. For our dog to keep this on without fuss tells me that it is comfortable for her and that she is giving this item 4 paws up! Other bonuses: well made (as are all ruffwear products), light weight yet warm, looks like it will be easy to wash. The only slightly "negative" is the price point. This poncho is an investment, but, honestly, all ruffwear products are. I've lost count of how many we own for almost every dog need out there. They aren't inexpensive, but you are getting what you pay for in terms of quality and customer service. While I did not need to contact them for this product as it is easy and intuitive to use, historically I have had excellent results with their customer service team whenever I've had a question about a product. It is hard to go astray when purchasing a ruffwear product. Read more

This poncho is like a lightweight down coat with hardly any heft, but it works great at keeping my dog toasty! I bought a L/XL for my 70 lb. Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. The neck isn't snug but also not too loose that it'd fall off (it also had a hidden elastic cord to snug up the neck to have it the right tightness). The poncho also has removable back leg stretchy straps. They work for my dog, but would easily work for much larger or longer dog. The poncho is bigger than I expected, which makes it even better at keeping her warm on the colder hiking trips or campfires. When I put it on her to see if it fit, she immediately made her happy little groans and then jumped on the bed and went to sleep. She refused to let me take it off! In fact, an hour later, and she's still wearing it and snoring. So this not only exceeded my expectations in every way, it made my dog the happiest doggo in the world. I might have to get another one so she can wear one around the house and the other for trips. Ruffwear always makes great products, but they really knocked it out of the park with this poncho. It's the GOAT of dog ponchos. Read more

For reference my dog is a little over 50 pounds and stands about 25 inches tall at the withers and the size medium fits when standing or lying down. I was excited to get this sleep poncho out with my dog. They like to get up and move around quite a bit so sleeping under a blanket hasn’t ever truly worked for them. With this they can walk around, lie down in another spot, or even hop up in a chair. The construction of this sleep poncho reminds me of a sleeping bag (which I know is intended) so that’s to say it’s super soft, fluffy, and rolls up nicely into a little pocket for stowing. If you’re using this on the trail that’s great! There are elastic hooks underneath for your dogs legs to go through that help keep the poncho in place and the neck hole stretches ever so slightly to allow different size heads to fit. I think this poncho is pretty warm, and my dog took to it fairly easily. 5 stars! Read more
