My favorite thermal spray - my hair can get very frizzy with any bit of humidity and with this - it holds it shape and controls the frizzies. I recommend hot ironing small sections of hair and then when you're all done it will seem like it is very stiff, but just run your fingers through it and it becomes soft again, holding the style, protecting against the heat and saving you from humidity frizzies!! The only down side I have found is that sometimes the sprayer gets stuck and it won't spray - even if I use warm water on the sprayer. I have sent 3 bottles back to Rusk and they replaced them without any problem - When I contacted them, it actually wasn't to get replacements, it was to let them know that I was getting that problem over and over so that they could fix it, but they sent me 3 new bottles anyway. Don't know what the solution is - sometimes it will go till it's almost empty but sometimes sooner - so just be aware - but other than that it is a great product Read more

I love this stuff and use it all the time. My hair is very fine, so I need protection when using a flat iron. I do agree with the other reviewers that this product makes your hair sticky (almost feels like hairspray when you spray it on) but it is by far the best product I've found to prevent heat damage. What I do is first spray it on then comb it through my hair to get the stickiness out. Then my hair is back to being soft and I can then use heat products. I think this product is meant for people with hair like mine - straight, fine, and lifeless because it actually adds texture to your hair rather than making it smooth and shiny. Read more

This stuff feels and acts more like regular hairspray than a heat protectant. I was looking for something that performs like Dry Bar’s Hot Toddy, and this is NOT it. It doesn’t brush in easily, it makes the hair tacky (like hairspray) and when flat ironing, it makes it VERY difficult to get the hair not only to glide through, but to lay flat and smoothly when going through, since it is tacky and gets stuck together unevenly before even being put between the plates. Then it gets even tackier when it gets hot. It smells fine. Nothing amazing and nothing terrible, if it performed well I’d definitely get it again, the scent is the best part of it, but that’s not saying much. In fact, it smells worse once it’s heated, which is problematic for a heat protectant! Anyway, do not recommend, unless you need a medium hold hairspray, then this would be sufficient. Read more

2021 UPDATE: Rusk Thermal Flat Iron Spray - is sold in an 8.8oz spray aerosol container. I have been purchasing it for several years, however a problem still exists. After the product is half used (half full), it plugs up, consistently. I have cleaned the spray nozzle on & off the can, but that doesn't work. You can shake the liquid in the canister, but it won't dispense. So, you pay for 8.8oz, but approximately, 4.5oz is actually usable! Hm-m-m... VERY ANNOYING!!!! My hair is very fine and has a mind of its own. Rusk Thermal Flat Iron Spray is the only product that works. I apply argan oil first to soften my hair. This keeps it from getting too stiff during comb out. Read more

If you know that you need to spray, brush, then flat iron...then this item is actually quite good. If you do not follow these steps then you have a mess on your hands at it will leave your hair sticky and crunchy. If you follow the above steps I like it...it provides a bit of hold which works great for soft waves and overall offers decent protection and provides a smooth look. However, this nozzle is terrible! It gets clogged easily and often stops working. I have had times when I couldn't use the rest of the product because the faulty spray design just stopped working altogether. Be ready to need to run the nozzle under very hot water before every use if you want to be able to use it. It's a real bummer because the actual product is pretty good. Read more
