This grater is absolutely flat (no curvature) and fits nicely in my implement drawer. The rubber parts are fixed (no wiggle or slippage), so applying pressure during grating action is no problem. I love this shredder. I had one from the dark ages that was rusted and grise, so I threw it out and bought a plastic one from the grocery store with the metal grater. It broke within a week. Bought another that I thought would be more sturdy... Nope, broke the plastic frame. I have no doubt that this one will last me a long time. It is stuff and sturdy and sharp!!! The rubber covered ends help with the grip and also keeps it from slipping on the counter. Cleans up well in the dishwasher. I'd buy it again, but I won't need too! Made to last! Read more

Hard to believe that the big box stores around here have nothing but cheap box graters, and flimsy plastic, and metal flat graters, and I have to order online. When I opened the package, I was pleasantly surprised. It was bigger than I expected....which is good, and also seems well made ,and solidly built. It has rubberized ends to prevent slipping. I wanted a basic cheese grater that would be easier to use than my box grater and not take up a lot of cabinet space. Thus, when I saw the SALT Stainless Steel Flat Coarse Grater listed for under $5.00, I thought this is exactly what I was look for and in my price range too. Well, it does grate cheese but there are a lot of caveats regarding the grater itself. It is awkward to hold because the rubber grip handle slips out of position; it is not sturdy enough and moves and bends during the grating process; it only grates thick cheese, not thinly grated because of the size of the holes; and, it is not strong enough to grate carrots, potatoes, etc. Alas, my trusty box grater has proven itself irreplaceable.
