Samsonite Compact Auto Open Close Umbrella

This is my second one of these. I lost my first one, which I had bought at Samsonite's website. :-( The handle feels good in your hand, and it's not made from cheap slippery plastic. It is sturdy, and it takes alot of wind to flip it/reverse it (I intentionally tested it during a period of high wind when I reviewed my first one). It's convenient to be able to push a button when getting INTO the car, and have it retract. Of course it's convenient to open it with the push of a button also. PEOPLE WITH LIMITED ARM/HAND STRENGTH-Be aware that this umbrella TAKES A GOOD AMOUNT OF PUSH to retract it for storage. Also, it has 2 Velcro strips that hold it closed. It is easy (for me anyway) to forget to undo both, and of course when they aren't both undone, the umbrella won't open. That has caught me more than once, when I undid the lower Velcro closure, opened my car door and stuck the umbrella out, pushing the release button at the same time, and it didn't open. I subsequently got pretty wet (as did my open car door) trying to hurriedly undo the top Velcro strip so it would open. So if you buy this, and I would recommend you do, don't make the same mistake. So, as I said, I would definitely recommend this item, and it is my second one, and of course it is made with "Samsonite quality". It's competitively priced and much better quality than the cheap ones, despite it's country of origin. It is Made in communist China. Read more

Great umbrella. I bought this for my son when he called me to say that his old umbrella was useless in Northern California. His old umbrella kept flipping and broke. Because of the rain and wind at UC Davis, I sent him this umbrella. It advertised itself as unflippable. My son says that it works great. This umbrella could be perfect if it had not punched me in the tummy & left a bruse, but not bad and disappeared quickly. Too funny Lucky a policeman was near by. He thought someone punched me and ran. But my hand slipped when closing. It take a little strength to push closed. And has to be closed to use button to open all the way. Read more

Broke in 6 months, I maybe used it 4-5 times. One day it the handle stopped retracting and it won’t stay open or closed. Read more
