These are so great when you first put them in, but the strong smell does start to fade after a week. They used to last around 10 days, now they are lasting closer to 14 days, so I don't know if there is a little more gel in the package, or if it is because the holidays are over and everyone went back to school, so the toilets doesn't get flushed as often. Maybe it is both reasons. I am on my second box of these cleaners. I was purchasing the bleach tablets and I did like them, but after having some issues with a 30 year old toilet we finally decided to replace it. When I read the instruction manual on the new toilet it said not to put anything in the tank, especially bleach, because it would void the warranty and cause the parts to wear out faster. So, that is when I went looking for something else to use on the toilet, to try and keep the ugly water ring from forming on the inside. The gel is easy to apply, and it smells nice. I still have to clean the toilet, but now I can do it every-other week, instead of each week. Because my water flow is mostly straight down, the only spot above the water line that gets clean is where the gel sits. However, the water inside the toilet does not stain as bad as it used to be, I don't smell bleach when I lift the lid, and the interior workings of the toilet are not going to be harmed in any way. So, even though I last applied a gel 10 days or so ago and I can still see it, I think I will start applying another one in a different spot so that I can get that great clean smell when I lift the lid.
