Our Mazda CX-90 has weird curved vents that don’t work well with our old phone mount. This one works much better for us with its extended tripod legs that help stabilize it against the dashboard instead of just to the vent grates. The magnets are also adequately strong, but not too strong. Our old mount’s magnets were so strong it felt like I was going to rip out the vent every time I pulled my phone off the mount. We recently switched over to MagSafe compatible phone cases, so I have been on a mission to find a good magnetic car vent phone mount. I have tested one that clips to the louvers, one with a single hook that pulls tight up against the louvers, and this one with the V shaped base and a single hook. While they all have their strengths and weaknesses, I found this one to be the best of the bunch. It may take a little trial and error to find just the right point of install, but once you find it, it can provide a very stable mount. I tried it on both horizontal and vertical louvers and it worked fine. PROS: Stability. The V shape is like the three legs of a stool. There are three padded points of contact to provide stability and reduce the amount of stress put on the vent louvers. I would suggest trying to place each point of contact on the frame around the vent if possible. Phone positioning. Instead of the ball joint being in the middle of the magnet circle, it is located on the circumference. This greatly increases the options for positioning of the phone. Magnet strength is good. There are some stronger, but I find it to be more than adequate. There is also a notch to hold your usb cord so you don’t always have to look for the end. CONS: Fixed orientation between the base and hook. Finding the best installation position could be improved if the base could rotate. Very generic looking. Nothing fancy. Tip: To remove your phone easily, lift from the point closest to the ball joint. For example, if the ball joint is to the left of the magnet circle, lift the left side of the phone first. UPDATE: Ignore the comment about a fixed orientation between the base and the hook. It turns out the hook will rotate. It just takes some effort.
