I have a Plex Server at home that allows me to digitally access all my videos, photos and music. It's very handy but as you can imagine, storage can be an issue as video files especially eat up a lot of memory. I have a 5TB external hard drive but am starting to run out of space. I decided I needed a much bigger storage option and I bought this Seagate for it's size and the reputation of the brand. I have had good experiences with Seagate drives whereas some other brands have failed on me in an unusually short amount of time. I'm super happy with this Seagate drive so far. I saw one review that says it will not run on MacOS which is not true. That person must have simply received a defective product. I have 2 different MacBooks and have no problem mounting this drive to either laptop. The thing that is most impressive about this drive is how fast it is compared to my other external drives. It literally transfers files in about half to even 1/3 the time that it takes to move files onto my smaller 5TB drives. One review says that it is loud. I do find that it is louder than my external 5TB drives but it I wouldn't say that it is inordinately loud. It's a much bigger drive so you need to power it via an AC adaptor, unlike the smaller drives which are powered via the computer's USB port. But that should be expected for any drive that is bigger than 5TB. Overall, this drive is doing the job I need it to do. It's fast and it has plenty of storage to keep my Plex drive storage growing for probably another couple of years. My experience with Seagate drives gives me confidence that the drive will not fail before I need to explore replacing it with a drive of more substantial size. Read more

I just got this so not reviewing long term performance. Unboxed it, came well protected in box. It came with multiple plug in adapters for different countries. Plugged it into my computer. When viewing the storage on this 14tb drive it's only 12.7TB. Some difference is expected but that seems like a lot. I started moving data from a smaller external drive and it worked perfectly. Transferring data at 40MBs. My computer is at least 7 years old so newer may work faster. I can hear a hum coming from it. I'll have to unplug it at night to sleep. Most people probably wouldn't be bothered by the sound but noises really bother me. Read more

High capacity 14TB external drive, USB 3 which includes a warranty with 2 year rescue service if you have file corruption and need the files restored. It's very quiet and has a small footprint considering the large capacity. It mounted first time and I used Disk Utility to reformat it to Mac OS Extended (I don't need dual-system FAT format for Windows machines, I never use them). Then I partitioned it into four partitions of different sizes for video, data, graphics, and miscellaneous/backups. Working great, very happy with the performance, form factor, price, and warranty. This drive was somewhat unreliable but it got the job done, for a while. I bought it in August of last year and now in December it has suddenly died. It says 2 year rescue service included but when I go to their website it says my warrant expired in June. When I try to contact them about repairs their website doesn't load any of the contact details. Hopefully I can find an independent technician that can recover my data. I wouldn't bother repairing this since it would just be a liability. Read more

Some reviews said it does not work with TimeMachine, that's not true. There are specific instructions to reformat for Time Machine. But honestly, it is a plug and play HD at an amazing price. My MacBook Air gave me "reformatting" steps on its own right away, you just have to select if you want to "wipe" this HD to use it with Time Machines, I said "Yes" and that's it. I actually used it to back up my MAC mini as well, and I could separately back up both computers with this same HD. Read more

Worked as expected. Came formatted as FAT32 so that it can readily be used with Windows or Mac. As a Windows user, a quick NTFS format just took a few seconds. Very quiet operation. Superb value for money. Read more
