I have three of these in my Synology NAS, and two smaller WD drives. The three Iron Wolf drives are working just fine, no bad sectors, no I/O errors, and they are pretty quiet. I will, in good time, replace the other two WD's with these drives. I have the 10 TB drives. This capacity is still within the "sweet spot" of capacity vs. price. Moving beyond this point, so far, means that the price increase increases faster than the capacity does, so I would recommend the 10 GB drives if one is upgrading capacity. Read more

This review is about 5 Seagate Barracudo Pro (Amazon Description: Seagate IronWolf NAS 7200RPM Internal SATA Hard Drive 10TB 6Gb/s 3.5-Inch). These drives are supposed to last a long time. I bought 5 of them 11/2017 to create a storage array in a Synology NAS. My NAS started reporting bad sectors on the first drive July 31, 2018. The second one August 9, 2018 and the third Dec 15, 2018 (the date of this review). Seagate replaced the first two with no questions asked and I'm sure they will do the same for this third one. The warranties are valid for 3 years so I guess I'm covered until July, 2020. Unfortunately that's not far away and history is not on the side of these drives lasting a long time. I will be investigating whether Seagate will replace this set of drives entirely as there might be something inherently wrong with the product. I'm very disappointed with the reliability of these drives. UPDATE: June, 2019 - My FOURTH original drive (out of the 5) has just developed bad sectors. So far, Seagate refuses to do anything except returns on an individual basis. I'm going to sell these drives and go with SSD's. I never really thought there was a difference in drive manufacturer's other than a bit of unfortunate bad luck but I'll never buy Seagate drives again. Read more

I ordered two of these to expand my NAS. I had to install one at a time to allow my Synology to rebuild my volume. Each drive replacement takes about 4 days. Well, the first drive started developing bad sectors after about day 7 on the job and then crashed. I was lucky to have redundancy. Anyway, I swapped it out with the other one and ordered a replacement. I just installed the replacement and hoping they hold strong. I like Seagate and am assuming the failed drive was somehow subject to shock before it got to me. I'm giving only 4 stars bc of the failure. If another one fails, I'll come back and update my review to reflect! 27 Sept Update: So far so good. I just checked the two 10TB Seagate IronWolf drives and both are running smoothly with no bad sectors. They do run about 7 degrees (F) hotter than my 6 other, non He drives but don't know if that's normal or not. About sound-They seem quiet to me, similar to my other 10+ Seagate HDD's! I have purchased 3 of these 10Tb drives over the past 3 years to fill up a NAS. They're barely more audible than the NAS's little cooling fan, and have so far not given me any issues. I had 2 set up in a mirror raid configuration and had them at 85% capacity for about a year before I bought a third and reconfigured to a smart raid system to bring me up to 20Tb capacity. Took 3 full days floor the NAS to move the data around across the 3 drives, but it did so without any errors or finding any bad sectors on the drives. I'll purchase a 4th one when I hit 70% capacity. (Seagate 10TB IronWolf NAS SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 256MB) I bought 3 of these drives to create a Raid 5 NAS with some old pc hardware I had lying around. Transfer speeds are surprisingly fast! I installed 2x 10G NICs between my PC and my NAS PC, and I get about ~650 MB/s write + ~770MB/s read transfer speeds between the two! So I basically have a 20TB SSD with redundancy. Holy Sh%t! Now granted, the Raid is only around 23% full at the moment, so when I get over 50% things might slow down a little. Of course, if you're not on a 10G network, you won't really be able to tell the difference unless speeds drop below ~110 MB/s These drives are quiet too, as other reviewers have mentioned. i never in my entire life had any problem with any Seagate hard drive. I bought two 10TB ironwolf drives and they work fine. Only one issue they could be too loud in my opinion. I ran Seagate tests to check health of the drive and they both passed. So noise is subjective issue. if you need good hard drives be sure to buy Seagate Read more

I was a filmmaker, I put a backup copy about 9 TB of my films I just finish shooting this month to start do editing and a basic copy and I had two pieces of this hard , I but one for editing and another for just backup . All of them were ruined at the same all its new and this is first used for them and I paid more than $ 2,000 just to recover the data and not all he told me need to fix it I need to pay more . It was the worst storage device I used. I do not know why, I asked for it. But I lost a whole day's photography cost me a lot of money and time, I do not recommend using it for any important work and you have to try before you rely on it. I have 3 of it , all don't works good , one if it I just open it now I'll trying for this month to see about it then I can do another review if its worth it. Read more
