Hardcore Primer for Serious Projects - Just Give It Time to Do Its Thing
If you're in the trenches working on real metal projects, this Seymour self-etching primer should be on your shelf. It bites into bare metal like a champ and lays down a solid base for welding or topcoating, but you’ve got to treat it right. Here’s the deal: This stuff isn’t your average rattle-can spray. It needs time to cure properly. Sure, it's dry to the touch in under an hour, but if you're planning to weld on it, do yourself a favor and wait a full 24 hours. Try to jump the gun too soon, and you'll get a little flame show when you strike an arc. Ask me how I know. Once it’s fully cured, though? It welds beautifully. Smooth arcs, no drama, no weird burn-throughs or splatter. Just clean, dependable results. But remember, this is a primer, not a miracle coating. It’s not designed to take abuse or resist solvents on its own. If you're spraying it in a spot that sees wear, solvents, or contact, make sure to topcoat it. Otherwise, it’ll wipe away or flake off easier than you’d expect. That’s not a flaw, that’s just the nature of self-etching primers. Bottom line: this is a killer value for a weld-through primer. I’ve gone through multiple cans on different projects: chassis work, brackets, patch panels, and it’s never let me down. Just respect the dry time, topcoat where needed, and you’re golden. Seymour knows what they’re doing with this stuff. Highly recommended. Read more
