I have acquired 4 Glazyrins (Magnum, Shearwater, Compass, & Skiff), and I honestly can't pick a favorite - while all 4 share similar properties like very tight gaps, each has it's own unique character and timbre. The Magnum is relatively large compared to the rest of the Glazyrin line up, having a rather stiff tongue with a extra-tight gap that, while making playing more challenging, also provides some unique tones and sounds that are more difficult or outright impossible to achieve on cheap harps with wide gaps and floppy tongues. Overall the build quality is excellent - there are areas that show machine marks and where human hands have been involved in the manufacturing process, but I find that to be part of their charm and beauty of these instruments. If properly oiled and stored, I expect these harps to outlast me - the tongues may eventually need replacing, but they appear to be removable/replaceable thanks to their design. The case, while made of inexpensive materials, it is definitely not "cheap" - it is cleverly designed and well made, providing ample protection for carrying about in a pocket or backpack. I have spent countless hours zoning out and playing these harps, and I look forward to decades more. Music can change your life - it's certainly changed mine for the better; jaw harps are a great way to zone out, meditate, and just kind of take a break from the rest of the world and make something beautiful with your "voice" and a couple pieces of metal, even if it's only for a minute or two in your car at a stop light, or while sitting on a bench in a park, or just hanging out on your porch enjoying the neighborhood. A little disclaimer, I have never played the jaw harp. But I love to collect and play with obscure instruments like this. I also recently got a kalimba and a tank drum. Overall I was extremely impressed with the heavy build of this harp. In doing an online search most of the jaw harps look easily breakable. This one I am sure you could drop on the ground and not have to worry. It's also a great bonus that is comes with the decorated storage case. This jaw harp exceeded my expectations. The packaging was excellent, ensuring the instrument arrived intact. The wooden case, crafted from plywood strips, secures the instrument inside with a satisfying magnetic click. I appreciate its moderate weight and charming hummingbird engraving. When I played it, I was pleased with the full tone and the extended reverb, allowing for versatile use as both a rhythmic and a drone instrument. It was easy to play, making it suitable for all experience levels. However, it's worth noting that it's not particularly loud; while adequate for solo play, it may struggle to compete with louder instruments in a group setting. We were in a historic touristy area in Virginia and my son saw a mouth harp and had to have it. He already plays harmonica really well and he wanted to test out a mouth harp. Well that $30 piece of tourist bait crap didn't function.... like at all. He watched all the videos and tried everything. Couldn't get it to make sound. But watching all the videos piqued his interest and showed him that mouth harps CAN work, if you get a decent one. Well, this one filled the bill! The wooden case is intriguing and beautiful and it gives no clue as to what might be inside. What a treat after such a disaster with the first one I got for him. He has so much fun with this one. The very first I got from this maker was a jaw harp for under $10 and it took 4+ weeks to get it. The instrument felt like a kids toy and I was pretty disappointed. The real lineup of their instruments showed up shortly after and I got a few of them which all came with only a few days. I guess they were now in Amazon warehouses. Awesome. What a contrast. This instrument shows not only great craftsmanship but also very nice aesthetics/art work. The cases are also very nicely done and are perfect to store the instrument safely (especially when traveling). This is the largest one of their lineup I have seen so far and seems to be a little more difficult to play. I am not a jaw harp expert by any means though but this instrument does sound really good and motivates me to learn how to play it properly and well. Very nice instrument and well made. Read more
