SimpliSafe Wireless Outdoor Security Camera 1080p Motion only

This is my 2nd SimpliSafe outdoor cam purchase. Been using one on the east coast for over a year now, and this one will live on the west coast. Cameras are easy to mount and position. I do wish there was an option that could make the cameras more tamper/theft proof, so they could be mounted in lower height locations. Cameras work well and seem to have good wifi signal capture. Using one with an eero mesh, and one is outside but only about 20' from the main router. They capture good images, but even at 1080, zoom gets grainy sooner that it should. Haven't really used the "spotlight" feature but will be trying it out this summer. Cameras are easy to setup in the SimpliSafe app. I like to power them up while I'm inside close to the wifi router, add them to the system and name them, update them, etc. Then take them to their mounting location and test their connection with the SS app once there. I like being able to see the grid of motion-sensor areas and disable certain ones, keeps bushes and trees from constantly tripping the cameras. Read more

Added this camera to the system we purchased years ago as the doorbell camera picks up movement across its vision, but not always head-on movement. It easily connected to the system and was simple to mount with two small screws provided. The magnet attaching it to the base is very strong and allows for many positions. We placed it about 8-10 feet above the entry with a 30 degree angle as suggested. The battery takes time to charge but after registering 99% on the app, it is still showing 98% after 4 days of service. I also purchased a back-up battery. These are simple to slide on. Clear picture and motion. Solid connectivity performance. Great sound and voice speaker. The only minor flaw I have noticed is that the magnet is so strong, when I twisted the camera during positioning, it came free of the base. If I had not had a firm grip on the lens I may have dropped it. I highly recommend this and all the SimpliSafeproducts I've used. Read more

Initially I could not get the cameras to connect. Sometimes they would connect, but not display any video only motion detection worked. After lots of troubleshooting and settings changes on my router, I opted to try a different router. I was using a Asus RT-AX82U router, a really good gaming router. I chose to try a TP Link AX5400 (Archer AX72 Pro) router. The setup for the TP Link router was easy and now the Simplisafe cameras are working without changing any settings in the router. Not sure what the issue with the Asus router was, but the TP Link is working like a charm and has been really fast and great distance on wifi. I also now have the cameras at 1080p. I know this sounds like a router review, but hopefully it will save someone major connectivity headaches when trying to connect their Simplisafe cameras. What they show you on television, isn't real life. While the system is a learning curve in the first time initial setup, after that it's a breeze. But the cameras are another thing. AND IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THEIR SOFTWARE!!! It shouldn't take 15-30 seconds for the cameras to come to life or even shut down before activating. And even when properly set up, they shouldn't track and record like the RAY HARRYHAUSEN STOP MOTION FILMS (remember Jason and the Argonauts or the Sinbad series). My previous ADT's were just a little better. These cameras also did a better job of picking up a raccoon doing his business on my deck, than filming the homeless guy standing outside my front door one Sunday evening while the wife was at bingo (the neighbors saw him. THE CAMERAS DIDN'T!!!). Another thing......SIMPLISAFE needs to update their system so that your AMAZON KINDLE FIRES can access your system. Read more

For the first year, these cameras were great, but it's almost as if their updates deteriorate the cameras performance or they have some of the worst hardware life spans out there. Repeated attempts at trying to get support with absolutely no help other than buying new ones SINCE THEY HAVE A 1 YEAR WARRANTY, HOW CONVENIENT! Avoid at all costs if you can, not a long term av security solution in any way. I have 4 of these cameras all in different locations, indoor and outdoor with varying distances from the base station (some being right next to the base station, which is directly next to my internet router) and all of them have the same issue, can rarely live stream any of them online or through the app anymore, and if they do end up streaming, it takes multiple attempts over 5 minutes. GO WITH ANOTHER CAMERA SYSTEM TO SAVE TONS OF MONEY AND FRUSTRATION. On top of all that, there is no way to configure these for 24/7 monitoring and they frequently miss blatant motion detection even at the highest sensitivity and installed within the recommended height range.
