Overall Verdict: For TRUE skateboarding fans, you'll love Skater XL. Board movements are authentic and relatively easy to master (with enough practice). With that being said, if you are a Tony Hawk Pro Skater fan only, this game will likely not be for you. Personally, I really enjoy the game! It's a fantastic time killer, I find myself trying something new every single time I turn on the game, and I learned something new with it almost every time I play. I think this game is a lot of fun, but I would advise ALL buyers to spend no more than $25 on the game. With minimal content, outdated graphics, and the lack of a multiplayer, this game is not worth the $40 MSRP (even for avid skateboarding fans). The Good: The graphics are respectable, the soundtrack is decent, and the customization is adequate. As stated before, the controls are relatively easy to master (especially for those who understand real life board movement). Trophies and achievements are easy to obtain. The game has a few quirks, but Easy Day Studios has been putting out updates to patch a lot of the major issues. The Bad: skater XL has no multiplayer whatsoever. Unfortunately there are no signs of Easy Day Studios planning on adding a multiplayer either, so don't hold your breath. If you are looking for an abundance of challenges like in THPS or EA's Skate, you will not find that here. This game is literally JUST skating with a handful of challenges for each map. With that being said, each map is mediocre in size and has minimal detail and comparison to maps seen on THPS or Skate. Skater XL is a time killer at best. This game is purely designed for REAL skateboarding fans. The Ugly: The graphics are decent, but definitely not up to next gen standards. The ragdoll effect on the playable characters is humorous and often times downright ridiculous. If you are looking for vigorous customization, you will not find that here. Whether you choose a "pro" skater or customize your own, all of the playable characters are emotionless robots at the mercy of your joysticks. And lastly, although the soundtrack is contemporary and alluring, the music does not shuffle. There's only about an hour's worth of music on the game, so the non-shuffle can get monotonous quickly. Let me start by saying I LOVE skateboarding games. And I didn’t come into this experience expecting a tony hawk or ea skate style game either. I also know easy day is an indie studio but this game really needs more content and polish for 32 dollars. The controls are intuitive enough to start but sometimes they don’t do what you command or are glitchy. A lot of the time I push, then crouch for my jump and if you don’t wait a few seconds after pushing the game makes you Ollie. So frustrating. There’s multiple levels to skate but only about 4 of them are worth playing. No online multiplayer lobbies which makes the game boring quick, no real missions, limited character customization with branded clothing and gear. If they update the game with more content I will change my review. Read more

Despite the weird product picture, this actually is the full ps4 game case and disc. The game is pretty fun and has lots of free user made and developer made content and free maps. Things you wont be able to do if your familiar with the EA Skate platform: Walk around off of your board. Do late flips. Do hand or foot plants, bonelesses or no complys. Easily chain a ton of grinds together. The create a player os a bit limited in terms customizing physical appearance. There aren't as many brands as the old EA franchise either. But the game is still pretty fun. The controls take some adjustment to get used to, if you've played EA skate in the past, but it's not to hard. It's a good game, I hope they'll make a sequel or a patch addressing the concerns above. It has potential to be king if the things above limitations are addressed and they polish some of the minor bugs. All that said, I still give it five stars because it is prettt fun and I feel it is worth the money. Read more

Game refuses to load character screen, sat and waited for this window to not open for 20 min— finally just quit and shut it down. ***Few days later** Game is still slow to load, character screen is hit or miss, it’s still glitchy and or freezes. Controls are complicated if you’re used to Other skate games.. But once learned it can be satisfying. There are no missions, multiplayer, or anything but you can complete challenges that allow you to learn a new trick and where to perform it. If you’re okay with just doing the same thing over and over then this game is for you. Maps are limited right now and the character’s slams are horrible. It’d be cool if they created a “run out” feature since that’s actually what most people do when they’re skating. Instead when you eat crap in the game you slide horribly to the ground all weird and glassy eyed. You don’t have to be a skater to play but you need a lot of patience to appreciate when you do complete a trick or a line. Read more
